    say it isn't so....paint spray

was at work yesterday, and came out to the parking lot to find my brand new zx6r covered in white paint spray. along with about thirty other cars, one of which is a brand new bmw convertable that had the top down.
i have only had this bike for less than a month now. WTF!!!!
they were spraying a water tower near by. hope they have a big check book!!!!! insurance adjuster will be out today to asses things.

+1, I believe this was the original purpose of the detailing clay (remove paint overspray).

if you don't they start pulling the whole "how do i know that was there from the date of the incident and not after" routine.

Personally? I would clay bar it (factory finish probably needs it anyways) then put a few good coats of wax on it and buff the hell out of it to finish it off.... paint SHOULD be gone by then

Re: say it isn't so....paint spray

This happened to my parent's car when they parked near a boat yard to go on a cruise. The entire lot got cars with overspray and I guess it happens a couple times a year. Insurance paid a check and got reimbursed by the yard. You shouldn't have any problems, but good luck anyhow.

    Factory wax, that's funny.

Clay bar and it will be fine, hopefully it's not on the controls, wire loom covers, rubber brake lines, etc. Because those are pain in the ass to clean.

Also about waiting for insurance to pay for it, I used to detail pretty much any type of vehicle and had been contacted by a company that had sprayed a steel structure @ fort devens after it was assembled.
The asshats that sprayed the structure did it on a windy day next to a day care facility, needless to say every car had gray overspray on it.

When I looked @ the cars the following day to give them a estimate the over-spray paint was washing right off the cars finish. The problem was the paint setup/hardened after 36hours. We did not start cleaning the cars until about 3 days later.
The job turned into a utter fucking nightmare and quadrupled in cost.

So if it's not that bad you might just want to go buy a claybar and do it yourself, or bring it somewhere and get it done sooner than later.

Which town? They are doing a water tower near me (1 block away) and they covered the whole tower, looks like they are doing it correctly.

Doubtful. They use epoxy paint on water towers and bridges. That aint coming off with clay.

Re: say it isn't so....paint spray

    tried the clay bar.
it gets all the paint of the fairings.
the controls/lines/frame/wheels/seat etc, it does not touch.
    WTF!
I have to bring the bike to the company to have them try it next week.
hopefully they know a way to remove the rest of the paint.
I work for MIT, and they are using a very reputable company to do the clean up. was told that this is what they specialize in. we shall see.
MIT insurance is taking care of everything, and they are going after the painting contractors insurance.
