    Tires, street/sport riding

Been a while since we had one of these dumpster fires.

Looking to get new meats for the SV before Deal's Gap. Burned through a set of Dunlop Q2's in two weeks down there. They stuck/felt great.

    Go Q3's?

I hear Michelin is coming out with some new sport/street tires that may give the 'lops a run for their money.

Anything new coming down the pipe from Pirelli?

Mileage isn't too much of a concern. Needs to be a streetable sport tires that does alright in the wet.

I've run through probably 8 sets of PP's in my years. I'm lookin for something in the newer generation of tire technology.

If they are anything like the Q2's, I may just go with them. REALLY like the feel of the Q2's.

I rock the Pirelli Rosso Corsa II. I think you can use up most any tire down there is a week though, so maybe price is the key?

    Re: Tires, street/sport riding

I'm running the Bridgestone S2x "hypersport" tires on the DRZ 'tard these days. That bike sees round town use in all weather and track days for the LOLz. Pretty happy with the tires. Fitment for the DRZ is a little weird so I'm running the newer S21 in a 120 up front but have to run the older S20 because I need a 150 or 140; 160's do not typically clear. But the SV runs a more normal 160 so you could get a matched set. Not a lot of rain/wet experience. But I'm already pretty happy with how they go in the dry at track day pace.

I had one of their BT-023 "sport touring" tires on the rear before and it kind of sucked. I could put the tire on its sidewall at Thompson, at which point it did weird things. The profile on their hypersport tires is way mo' bettah. And the ST tire wasn't that awesome great in the dry. Nothing that should surprise given the target use. Overall I've been more impressed with the Michelin Pilot Road series tires for ST rubber.

    Bridgestone. Another option. Maybe.

I have Pirelli Angel GT's on my ST2, also had them on my VFR400. Really like that tire.

I have Metzler Z6 Interacts on the ZRX and it's a phenomenal tire, particularly in the wet... but made 'specially for big heavy-ass bikes.

Isn't it just a product line? I thought they've been redesigning it and just re-purposing the 'Pilot Power' name for each iteration.

    Re: Tires, street/sport riding

I had Q3's on my R1 got maybe 5k miles out of them.

I had PP3's on the SV got 11k out of them.

Different bikes but still both great. I recently switched to the PP3's on my R1 I think the grip is still great not like Q3's but still have the confidence.

    In the wet:

    PP3 >>>>> Q3.

Yes, but when you reference a specific model which is still in production, I assume that's the one that's being spoken of.

Front wheel drive? Snows all the way...

I really like the Powers when I had a lighter bike. I had BT023's on my heavier bikes, they did pretty well, but I think you need a heavy bike for them.

Ah - You meant the pilot power 3's been out for a while, right? I was thinking a PP4 was available.

No, you can still buy the original Pilot Powers. Like PP1's.

    Re: Tires, street/sport riding

With something like an SV I would say how about a Pirelli Angel Gt. At least you can get some mileage out of them. Personally I like the pilot roads series better, but if I were going to deals to rail corners, I feel that the water sipping in the Michelin might be an issue down there.

I also ride a 600 LB VFR1200 like a complete asshole along with knee down antics and haven't had an issue.

    Re: Tires, street/sport riding

I just switched from Angel GTs to Rosso IIIs. Im absolutely in love with the new rossos. I've taken both to the track but the Rosso's just feel a lot more responsive on and off the track. Can't speak too much on mileage yet.

Did a damp track day on Rosso IIIs and was comfortable, also ran advanced group pace at Palmer on a set, got a lil greasy on 90+ days.. Angel GT's have done well in some downpours (street) and gotten knee down as well (track). So they've also performed well.

I'll second this. I'm getting a street bike this year that I'm going to also teach at some track days and Q3's are going on there right away.

I love, love, love the Q3's, and I've gotten a good amount of life on two different sets, BUT!!! Their cold weather (sub 40 degrees) performance is really poor, they simply won't warm up, not even a criticism really because imo it'd be unfair to expect them to shine there too.

I was pretty amazed at how fast the Q2's let me put myself on my face when cold. Once warm they were much better. But not very forgiving at first.

Had angel gt's on my fz6. Loved em. Used them at the track too without any issues.
