So my 2004 CRF 250 cracked a case. Its not worth the time and energy to fix it, and I don't want to bother parting it out. I have it on sale on craigslist, but the amount of money I could probably get isn't worth the hassle of dealing with the nonsense.
So what are my options? Donate it for a tax write-off somewhere? Recycle the metal bits?
I wouldn't give up on the value of parting it out, even if you don't wanna do it personally. Search ebay for used parts for that bike (wheels, forks, frame) and contact whatever big volume sellers appear near you. I've been looking for a rear wheel for my ktm 125 so that I won't have to swap ice tires every season, and it becomes obvious in a hurry that ebay has breathed a ton of new life into the business of motorcycle parts recyclers
Stuff like that I put on eBay with local pickup only with one cent starting bid. People pay what they pay.
Give it to me and I will pay for shipping?
Reality is the value of the bike is with a running motor...otherwise sell the big ticket parts (rims forks etc.) and drop the rest off at a junkyard

how much would it actually cost to fix? $1000 (parts + labor from a shop)?
if you really dont want to fix it then i would say part it out or figure out a price that would be a good deal if the bike DIDNT have a cracked case and deduct the repair cost.

^^ why not just put in a running motor and sell the bike?
edit: how much would it cost to fix a bike like that? if you only make a $300 profit after sinking $800 into it, then yes...just part

Finding a motor is the problem, like Smutty said. They're on eBay for like 600-1000 bucks, and I don't wanna get into a can of worms with an ebay motor.
And diatribes are a dime a dozen down here, Id be stunned if I could get more than 1500 bucks for it in perfect shape.
yeah f-that...part
in my head I'm the only one forum wide with a $1,500 or less valued dirt bike, lol
