    Re: Kaplan Cycle Auction

    I used to follow him on Youtube and would catch lots of comments from disgruntled auction purchasers. I consider him a bit of a PT Barnum sort of character. His treatment of bikes in his for sale videos is quite ridiculous. Ya a hard pass on anything he puts his hands on. If I want a relic I want it treated like gold and sold at the price of tin. He treats bikes like tin and sells them at gold standards. Good for him. But not for me.

    He certainly does have a unique flavor .

    I have no skin in this game nor am I associated with his organization in anyway.

    Just thought there might be something someone might be interested in.

    When new, the Honda CB50R cost a hefty $5,499. I see they are asking $12,500. If you have the money I expect this artwork to be worth it to someone. Here is it under full acceleration. Worth $12.5?

    For me the 2003 Aprilia RS50 is the 50cc you want to own.

    Yeah I think I'd build one of those from scratch from an old bike frame and scooter engine before paying $12.5k.

    Pretty cool. I like the videos where he whiskeys around on old 2t beasts.

    He's got a couple nice Honda 750's in there, the SL bikes will sell for real money too. The GS1150 big bore looks like fun.

    I've never been but his videos typically have some cool stuff. Alot of it just reminds me of when i was a kid, like the SL70 as my cousin had one, or the time he had an MR50 as i had one.

    I heard that most of this guys collection is from local collectors that passed away and he had the stuff donated to him. The boomer generation had a large population of motorcycle riders. This led to a lot of bikes in the 70's and 80's to kick around. For me this collection is a time machine of my youth. I look back at those old bikes like they are time machines that transport me back to my teens.

    { Tom having a flashback to 1980's }

    Everyone I knew as a teenager had a bike but me. My parents wouldn't allow it. When I turned 18 I bought my first crappy Yamaha XS500 twin knowing if they said I couldn't keep it I would move out. That joy and pleasure of wishing I had the soon to be released 1983 V65 Magna. Then the wait for it to show up in March when I came up with $800 for a down payment. The first ride with snow piles and the fear I had going from a 30 bhp bike to one with 130bhp! Whew! What a time to be alive! I still remember the smell of the cosmoline type film burning off of it. I ended up trading it for an Interceptor. Got my first knee down action on it. I thought it was the best handling bike ever. Sold it, had kids, bought a Hawk GT NT650... Then there was that time the Ducati dealer had a leftover 996 mono.... Let me tell you about the time I got pulled over 9 times in one summer, not one ticket....

    {flashback ends - Zoom meeting continues - Did you see the new TPS reports....}

    Yeah, not knocking the collection by any means. Just crazy that a museum has stuff like a Honda Magna or VF500, or bikes that were just never that popular. Plus, as mentioned, conditions are all over the map.

    Definitely looks like some potentially great deals though. I will be keeping an eye on them for sure.

    I one there’s a magna frame and seat and he calls it an interceptor. Anyway picky by me. As said above by someone these regardless of condition are often happy reminders of my younger years.

    i put some low bids in for the Mark LT truck, but its going sell sky high. everything else is too close to the moon landing era than I'd like it to be.

    I looked at the truck. Isn't it already bidding well above NADA?!

    Definitely. Also looks like it was just hosed off, so maybe looks worse than it actually is.

    Latest video says something about that museum roof springing a leak. Oh and a video of some Honda CR coming to the museum.
