After the race, you pumped out the fuel, which you got to keep so by the end of the year you had a surplus of fuel.
I bought it to get into open class comp but there aren't any tracks near me that do karting whoops. I'll have to find methanol close to me

Well ive never seen a Methanol powered go kart. You had originally written you needed "alcohol" which is what i used to race with, which is i suggested the ethanol.

Methanol is what was used at my old track, it's a different base than alcohol. Ethanol is nowhere near the same as methanol or alcohol as far as power output from it. If you want to just start the thing up then it'll probably work. You can get methanol from a VP dealer.

Be aware, once you fire the engine up on it you'll have to completely fog the engine because the stuff is very corrosive to aluminum.

He told me the oil needs to changed every ride because of the fuel but that's all he knew. He was kinda useless

Re: Karting V. Tracking a bike

Personally, I think it's methanol. Like I said, find a VP dealer and give them a call. I don't even think they'll list an alcohol.

And yes, I changed my oil after every practice, heat or feature.

What is the engine? A Briggs? Flathead or Animal over head valve?

Re: Karting V. Tracking a bike

Eeek, those things are pretty obsolete at the tracks now a days anyway. They were phasing them out of racing probably back in the late 2000's. That is what I raced but mine were blueprinted stock engines that twisted about 7000 rpms and were tweaked pretty much to the max. True "open" Briggs Flatheads are pretty nasty engines and usually run something like a Tillotson carb fed by a fuel pump with a fuel tank under the steering stem.

Re: Karting V. Tracking a bike

I had a track close by and knew I wanted to race go karts so I went and hung around the track for a while. I found karts on the track that were for sale so I got to see how they actually performed on the track. Once I narrowed it down to a couple, I went and talked to the guys, usually they're all super nice people and very informative. I found some really great guys and bought a complete kart from them. They offered to help me set it up and scale it to my weight which is a MUST if you even want to think about being competitive. My track had an amateur class at the time, I jumped in at the tail end of the season and a couple weeks in I was running up front if not leading races. So, if you're serious, go to the track you'll race at, see what classes are popular and what people are running and go from there.

Then I'll bet it's just a blueprinted stock, which are still pretty potent. It could have a cheater cam in it.

Oh I got ya. They don't really make great yard karts. It's sort of like driving a Stock Car on the street.

If he put a new diaphragm in the carb after the last time he ran it then it should fire right up. Fill it with oil, fill it with fuel, blow in the fuel cap for a couple seconds to prime it seeing there's no choke and then pull.

It's not going to blow up on methanol, that's what it was designed to run on.
