KingCast, the IPhone, NESR and Scoot on up! score a major philosophical victory: Free, "Angle" parking in Boston!

I told you a year ago (New England Street Riders letter included) that I liked Boston Traffic Tzar Tom Tinlin, it was in the way he presented himself as an earnest public servant, and how he shot me a peace sign when I whipped into traffic on the 650R after this impromptu interview at a Statehouse Scoot on up! rally.

Note that the parking spots are free (actually $0.25) to scooters and motorcycles, which rewards the use of efficient transportation. I understand that the Boston Law Firm of Brown, Rudnick is going to start riding a fleet of 650R's as well. Really.

Heck between the No Angle victory and the Toxic Big Dig garbage clean up in my backyard, I'm batting a thousand this week!

    Wirelessly posted (HTC EVO "DROID" : Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1-update1; en-us; Sprint APA9292KT Build/ERE27) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17)

I believe there was gonna be a law that said that bikes had to parallel park like cars. So I assume angle parking is the way bike usually park which is rear wheel to the curb

Looks interesting, what is this legislation he speaks of? I would be thrilled if there was better motorcycle parking in Boston, I rarely leave the city during the work week.

Edit: especially multiple Motos in one spot or Motos not needing to feed the meters!

Hey was that you next to me then?

The legislation was related to scooters more than bikes but it's all related because if scoots have to be registered they have to park on the.... street.

Don't think so. The only motorcycle person I've been around recently was a girl on a Dayton 675.

Ok.. so how would parking parallel make your bike more likely to fall over?

Some bikes it doesn't matter so much if the sidestand is shorter you get a good lean angle, but on a steeply crowned road for drainage, a bike that stands more vertical is suspect, and my friend's R100S I was nursing back to health definitely was suspect parked parallel.

Plus you waste more space that way, think about it. It was just some shit for the city to make some loot when they felt like it, totally capricious and arbitrary enforcement.

Plus is ALWAYS better to chock your back wheel against the curb and whatnot, so you have more security.

I might be misreading, but it sounds like you're saying motos and scooters don't need to feed the meters in Boston? Is that true? If so I've been throwing money away!

Re: We killed "No Angle" Parking in Boston!!!

Interesting article in today's Globe is related to this.

"Newbury Street, of all places, now offers the best parking deal in town, 25 cents an hour. But there is a catch: You have to ride a scooter or motorcycle to fit in the parking space."

    http://www.boston.com/news/local/mas...?p1=News_links

It's really great to see this kind of forward thinking in a city that quite honestly is known for backward thinking. Anyone who has been to San Francisco can attest to how popular motorcycles are as a congestion avoidance/reduction strategy.

I wonder if the availability of this parking will cause an increase in new riders (I hope so) or just be convenient to existing riders who will endure the jealous stares of morons in cars.

Hey Mojo thanks for that update, I should be there today to get Hizzhoner on video. I thought they were free but 25 cents = distinction without difference.

$0.25 an hour and all day parking is a pretty good deal. I might just take advantage of these spots and stop avoiding the back bay

Great job! I had a stop on Beacon St last week and saw some spaces when I rode up Boylston!

MMA professed no hope of this ever changing. I guess if you ride open-pipe Harleys, you don't get much cooperation.....

I wrote MCCA two years ago about the loop sensors at the Boston Common garage. Guess I'll try again!
