Personally, I think these threads are sobering and healthy reminders. It's far to easy to forget how risky the sport is....especially when you're in the peak of summer and enjoying it the most.

There have been plenty of times that news of a fallen rider has passed through my mind before I go for ride. It's always enough to make me look three times instead of twice, and knock the speed down a bit. I'd be willing to bet that any fallen rider would have been glad to have that effect on someone still around.
