recently , my bike was vandalized, by being knocked over on both sides. now when i go to start it it won't start. the fuses are fine, and all the lights come on. on the dash the red oil light is on (along with the neutral light), but i don't recall it being on before starting the bike, but maybe it is??
there isn't even a click or anything .. press the start button absolutely nothing happens..
what the heck is wrong?

Clutch sensor wire knocked loose?
what is a tip over sensor (forgive my noobie-ness)? i toggled the kill switch. that's not it.
i'll have to check the clutch sensor.

Does it still crank? It wouldn't crank if the tip-over sensor was stuck would it? Same with the clutch sensor, at least my bike won't crank if the clutch isn't pulled or the stand is down in gear.
98 Bandit, probably carbed not EFI. If it's carbed and it was on its side it probably washed the cylinders quite well. Hold the throttle wide open and crank it. If you've been cranking it the battery might be too weak to get it to fire, jump it off a car (without the engine running, you won't hurt the car battery at all).....plug your ears, might sound like a shotgun going off
There are 4 major safety switches to check.
Tip over switch
Clutch switch
Neutral switch
Kick stand switch
You also need to make sure the kill switch wasn't damaged. This is one of those times a shop manual and a volt meter are your friends.
edit; I'm not sure the 98 Bandit has a tip over switch. my '03 manual is at the shop.

iti's not cranking at all.. not a noise at all when the button is switched. this is why i think it's a electrical problem.

Do you get power when the key is on?

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
Sometimes if a battery is very weak, it will be enough to power the lights on the guages but not enough to get anywhere close to crank the engine.
Is the battery old?
Have a battery tester/tender?
the battery is perfect.

Just remembered. The clutch safety switch is a chronic problem on the Bandit.
There are two wires that come off the bottom of the clutch handle. Remove and clean the contacts well. This solves the problem 90% of the time. If it doesn't, make a jumper and connect the two wires together. This will bypass the switch. JUST REMEMBER YOU DISABLED IT!!

Could possibly that its hydrolocked with oil... I know from experience
but my bike was completely upside down.
But check your other switches first like Palanon said:

I think if its the tip over sensor the bike will crank but not start though so I'd bet its not that.

Hydro lock would allow the starter to try though wouldn't it?
Sounds like there is nothing when he hits it. Sounds like a sensor. Start checking them and get back to us.

clutch switch,
kick stand switch
tip over switch
neutral switch
all working fine....
WTF!?!

Did you check them with a meter? as an example, the clutch switch will make a click noise but no juice will flow.

I would jump them progressively and see what happens.

Does your battery have a vent? I have seen batteries empty themself when a bike falls with the vent down. The battery had enough life for the controls but would not turn the starter. Just another idea of something to look at.
nope check and rechecked the battery. the battery is not the issue.
i'm stumped, GBM is going to take a look.
