So I just bought a bike with Pirelli Diablos on it. I'm sort of a Michelin fan, I have always had good luck with them, and Karaya One here on the site sells them very reasonably.
I was showing my bike off to a friend who runs a bike shop, and he says, "Those tires are spent, you need new ones."
I dont think I need new ones; these look to be about 65-70 % to me. Is there something I'm missing? I know the Michelins had sweet little wear bars inside the tread so I would know when it was time. These Pirellis dont seem to have any wear bars.
I'll try to post up some pics tonight when I get home, but in the meanwhile - what do you guys wait for before you replace a tire?![]()

my power races are not even close to the wear bars, but the right side rear looks "shredded" in spots.
I'm going to run them for thursday practice, but was planning on mounting the new ones (atleast the rear before the races). I would love if I didn't have to though ...

On the street run the tires as long as it's comfortable for you. If the tread depth is getting low and you ride in wet conditions it's safer to replace them, If you have tread and the tire feels ok then keep running it.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
I ride like a sissy, so they tend to "feel" fine until they're cupped.Originally posted by hessogood

Usually wear bars but the old standard is a penny
Put it in the center groove if Lincoln's head is covered your OK
That is buried in the depth of the groove. 70 thousands or 2 MM deep.
I'ld buy the tires you want and just have them around for the inevitable
Or we all good use a good smoke show
Glen Beck is John the Baptist
pirellis have wear indicators like any other tire

I *think* it was bad gas causing detonation. I've been riding it to work, put fresh gas in it, and it seems to be happy now.Originally posted by oreo_n2
