KTM RC 390 coming to the US?

Is there anyone here from any KTM dealer (I know they're few and far between) or ANY dealership that may be able to enlighten us as to why the Duke 390 and RC 390 aren't here yet?! It's hard to believe that the Austrians (and Indians) haven't attempted to bring these to the US market yet.....especially since the Ninja 300 and CBR 250 have essentially revitalized the small displacement market. It looks like I'll be waiting til 2015 to buy one. WTF

I called my KTM dealer a few months back and they said the Duke 390 was coming in Aug. Haven't heard anything about the RC.

Beware: This is like 2nd or 3rd hand knowledge. But...

I read someone post on a forum I read that he had put down a deposit on an RC390 sight unseen. His dealer refunded the money. "KTM USA has decided that there aren't enough orders to justify the RC390 this year."

Bubba: Don't scare me like that. (Although it sounds accurate)

Pigman: Yeah, the Enduro is pretty cool and was on my shortlist but I ended up buying a Duc Hyperstrada a few months ago. RC 390 is just so unique though......actually it's so unique that it's not even available in the friggon US. lol

Yes, that's what I wanna use it for, but KTM is hell bent on not importing it to US! lol. I may just have to import one from India.

I put my deposit down with Razee in RI last week. I was told by Manny they had just received the info on the 2 bikes (RC and Duke 390) last Wednesday.

I really wish I wasn't as tall and large in diameter as I am. I would love to own one of these bikes but the proverbial monkey fucking a football would have nothing on me if I were to ride one.

Duke or RC? They make a Duke 690.

They are getting both the rc390 and duke 390, sorry if it wasn't clear. My deposit is for the rc390.

With any luck it'll be legal for the 300 class and I can race it.

My comment was @ Joel. If the naked dance is what he's after, the Duke comes in adult New England kid size. If the RC.. well, he's sol.

I think a duke would be a ball to commute on. Seems like a more street bias'ed sumo.

IIRC, the rules were written to allow the 390.

When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

Nope, I was talking about the RC in particular. Though I agree that a naked 390 or 690 would be a hoot to ride I really like the idea of a small displacement bike for the street/track days and that RC390 visually catches my fancy. It is a shame that no matter how much hitting the gym there is I am just physically not built to ride a bike that small.

I'd love to ride the RC390, also. But, from looking at the pics of that bike, it appears as if Dani Pedrosa was who they had in mind for the size of person to ride it. I'm taller than Dani by nearly a foot...

Huh, stop the whining. You tall people have enough - basketball, swimming, tennis, etc. This is God's way of making sure the short people like me aren't feeling too bad about life. I am totally OK with any and all bikes being made for little people

I thought graham said the 390 wouldn't make the cut.

Re: KTM RC 390 coming to the US?

nhbubba that link doesn't mean anything because regardless of his post the rule is written to allow 390cc's. The RC390 is 375cc's. However until it is added to the list of approved bikes that 390 limit doesn't mean much either.

He may have posted that before these rules were official for 2014 and could change for 2015.

    21.1 NEW FOR 2014: FORMULA 300 – Formula 300

Re: KTM RC 390 coming to the US?

Meh. Based on the fact that Graham is one of the rule writers, his opinion does have some relevance.

Is the post 'bubs linked to the final rule? No. It was an opinion based on a possibility of a released bike.

Can the rules change? Yes. Based on some of the things I've heard about the intent of the 300 class, putting a higher priced, higher displacement, higher performing bike in the mix "might" not match the intentions.

I'm guessing... I haven't a dog on this race. The UL rule is written to allow 650s. Well, specific 650s. That's fine.

I'm just saying that buying a 390 knowing it will qualify for the 300 class is a risk.
