This is going to piss off a few people who ran out and bought an 1190.

I do wish KTM would make an actual adventure bike based on their amazing experience building offroad machines. I mean, I think the KTM Adventure bikes are cool. But The 690 is WAY better for actual "adventure".
Heck, these guys get it...

I think this guy sums it up quite well...

If you can not pick up your bike fully loaded in any situation, it is not an adventure bike.

What if they call it an adventure touring bike. Is that okay with everyone?
Hehehe, they can call it anything. It's an awesome bike. Heck, I bought something of that nature which is really not even half comfortable in the dirt, but it's the best street bike I've ever owned.
I'd still really like a proper adventure bike though, so I find my self seconding that guy's open letter. I mean, I had such high hopes for the super tenere... but it weighs 585lb's without gear!![]()

I demo'd the super 10. Its weight isn't its only problem. I don't quite get why they are everyone's darling.
I kind of disagree that the gap is between the DRZ400 and KTM 690. I more think the gap is between the KTM 690 and 1190 ADV.
Have you ridden a 690 Enduro? Much more power, much better suspension, much better brakes, and slightly lighter. It's in a different league along with it's price tag.

When I see bikes like this...
The idea of just kitting out a proper enduro bike for increased range, mobility and capacity sounds like money well spent![]()
Nope. Just sat on one. So far I can't tell if it's the best thing since sliced bread, or a dumb idea I'd get sick of in a season.
I guess everyone has different opinions on what an "adventure" bike is. I think it's more of a does everything swiss army knife and less of a badass Dakar weapon. Personally, I have no interest in owning that Honda pictured. Way too intense for me. What I do want is something kinda-sort-of dirt oriented that is lighter than my DL, better equipped, yet still comfortable for US highway use.
I'm not convinced a thumper with a G-string seat gets that done.
70% scale 1190 please.
A real bike needs accommodations to allow 500 mile days on 2 lanes like a real seat and a 150 mile + range
Should be able to carry camping and clothes for at least a weekend
Around here all dirtbikes should be registered somewhere to get to the woods
IF you have only 1 bike then a 600 ish big dirt bike is a good comprimise

Glad I didn't get the 1190. I was waiting for this very thing to happen.
I wonder if they added the much complained about lack of cruise control?

As per the KTM website, it has cruise control.

What you want is a Tiger 800 XC. May not be much lighter than the DL, but it's FAR better in the dirt, and also better on the street than the DL (I've owned both so can make an informed comparison).
That said, KTM has confirmed that they're coming out with a 1050 Adventure to be announced at EICMA next month, but as of yet no one has provided an accurate idea of what sort of bike it will be. One magazine speculated that it'll be an entry-level ADV bike, but KTM doesn't really do entry-level, and that displacement would be too big for that category anyway. I have a hunch that it'll be a more dirt-focused ADV bike, like an updated Super Enduro.

I had 4 days in Kali on a Tiger 800 streetie. Maybe I owe the XC a try. But I just don't see me liking it that much. Maybe if I were new to the market. But it just isn't mo' bettah enough over my DL650 to make me part with my cash. Ultimately, I think the triple just doesn't do it for me. I think I'm a V-twin guy. KTM makes V-twins.
That KTM 1050 sounds exciting. Chip keeps telling me I need to ride a 990 someday.
I like the 990.
After riding it I can't see needing 2x the hp (or thereabouts).
