well, you're taking the MSF... they work on every skill in the riding portion of the class, so you'll know pretty much exactly what the test will be before you actually take it.

I thought taking the MSF meant you get your license if you pass the class. That's how it's done in CT anyway.

Obviously things have changed in MA since I lived there.

Showed up to take the test. The officer tells me to do a figure 8 in the parking lot. Then do a circle around him.

    Bang!! done!

It scared me how easy it was.

I got my license after 2 weeks of learning on an EX500 back in 1992(Practiced for hours every day). A couple months later, I took the MSF BRC only in its 2nd or third year of its existence. One instructor crashed in front of the class showing off scraping his pegs.

If youre taking the MSF course you can get your liscense providing you pass. Scary enough almost everyone passes. Just prepay the 15 or 20 to the registry and then bring in a copy of your permit on the first day. It will arrive in the mail a few weeks after you pass.

in NH they give you a voucher that you take to the DMV and you don't have to take the test. You can get your license on Monday, after you finish the class Sunday.

Im taking it in CT (since my residence is there - long story - just in ma for a few months) and I don't need a permit since the class is on private property (the place has its own track) and the woman at the school said I didn't need one. Just show up. WHich saves me about $50.

I know if you pass the class you pass the driving part of your test. Is there a written test or anything at the DMV? Or is it just pass the class and go get your license at the DMV. I was just wondering what to expect. I'm sure they'll tell me at the class what I have to do.

If you have a bike that you can ride, I would recommend getting a permit. Otherwise, don't bother paying the extra money. Just wait to get your license with the MSF class.

Does CT have bikes at the MSF course? If so, don't bring your own. Passin' the u-turn on a Rebel 250 is way easier than doing it on a sportbike. If you have any coordination at all gong in, you'll pass and get your endorsement (M/C license).

Once you have your endorsement you can take the MSF Experienced Rider Course (ERC). It's much shorter since you don't have to re-learn all the parts of a bike. The ERC course strengthens your skills but on your own bike. It still only leaves you qualified to safely operate your motorcycle in a parking lot when completed but every learning chance you get will increase your likelyhood of living through anything thrown at you on the street.

    Good luck!

Yes they do have bikes at the course so I was planning on using theirs. As of now I dont have bike just yet but there is one in my very near future.

Thanks Fazerchic for the advice. I think I'm going to pass on the permit to pocket the fifty plus dollars and save it for some gas money.

in mass you have to have a current permit to get your license...you should check into that before you head over to the course.

I'm actually getting my license in CT b/c that is where i technically have residency right now. I'm in MA for a few months to save some money etc. The place I"m gonig to take my class says I don't need a permit, so I'm not going to waste my money on something I don't really need.

Ok after reading this Im a bit confused. You have your motorcycle liscense in CT? If so I believe you can transfer it to a MA endorsement.

If you dont have it then yes you will need to get your permit in order to get the MA motorcycle liscense. They will let you take the class but they wont give you the little card that said you pass. You will still have to go to the registry and get your permit and then you will have to go back for the liscense test. If this is your case then its to your advantage to have your permit before you go to the class and have the liscense pre-paid so you will not have to return to the registry after you pass.

I know it is a bit confusing. My living situation is only temporary in MA. I still have my residency as my sister's place in CT where I have lived for two years. I am moving back to CT most likely at the end of summer. Therefore, I am getting my license in CT. I have a CT driver's license. ALl documents and everything still say my sisters place. Since I'm moving back to CT shortly, I didn't transfer everything over to MA to do it again in a month or two back to CT. If that makes any sense.

hmm...a bit confused. you're taking the msf brc in mass and don't have a license but plan to get one in ct? are you planning to use the course to get your license, or are you planning on going and doing a ct road test to get your license later on? either way you're going to need to get a permit if i'm not mistaken.

i had taken the course with someone from ct who didn't have a permit when he took the course in ma and then had to take the ct road test to get it regardless of the fact that he took msf.

you should probably talk to someone who is running the course to make sure you'll have what you need to get the license if that is your plan.

I'm taking the class in CT to get a CT license. I do not have a motorcycle license from ANY state....just a driver's license from the state of CT.
