Got my new lid today! (in time for TTD@NJMP)

My old HJC AC-11 had aged out. It was made in 2003 (more than 5 years old) and is Snell M2000. I've only used it for track days and racing and it's been stored in a cool dry place. It's still like new, but the born-on date and Snell rating disqualify it from racing.

The HJC AC-11 fit me perfectly. I "track tested" one a few years ago and it protected me flawlessly.

So I got the new FS-15 Carbon. I thought the AC-11 was a decent helmet but the FS-15 is so much nicer! At 1/3 off list price and fast reasonably priced shipping, my eBay seller (powerdrom) gets

I may be retarded but is the "carbon" just a look thing, or is it actually a lighter helmet.

It's a carbon fiber shell, not just carbon look.

It weighs in at 3lb 5-3/8oz. (1514 grams). Webbikeworld lists it as 6th lightest of 102 XL full-face helmets that they tested, and 16th of 110 tested.

    http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcyc...et-weights.htm

The Arai Vector weighs just 2.5oz more, but the Quantum II, Vector and Shoei X-11 are roughly 1/4 lb (8%) heavier. The Scorpion EXO-700 weighs a half pound more.

Carbon fiber is strong stuff. In addition to the light weight, the impact resistance should be outstanding. The purpose of the outer shell is to prevent anything outside the shell from getting inside and to keep the polystyrene liner from breaking apart. This lid should be strong and light.

The biggest downside is the color. I'd rather have a white helmet.

Sweet. Minutes ago I ordered a copper colored FS-15 Carbon. Puts a dent in the wallet, but better than a dent in the head! I got 12% off the price using Microsoft cashback from live.com.

    Nice purchase!!!

I think the black is sharp, and I don't think it will matter much as far as heat if used on the track mainly

I could see if you were cruising around in the desert, but on the track most of the heat will be internally generated.
