i freakin' hate buying new bikes...HELP!?

Oh god this is killing me...insurance from the stolen R6 is prolly gone be *done* by end of this week. Which means I can finally get a new bike. I've been dreading having to actully pull the trigger and make a descion! Here's what I'm looking at right now...what do I get!!!???

    2003 R6 (blk/red flames)
    -Micron slip-on
    -seat cowl
    -fender elimim (with stock directionals)
    -one owner (female)
-red screen (hate it, will replace asap)
    -never dropped
    -1,800 miles(!)
    -asking $7,000

    2003 R1 (blk/red flames)
    -Akropov slip-on
    -smoked screen
    -intigrated tail signals
    -fender eliminator
-flush mount front diretionals (hate them)
-after market mirrors (1 is missing, will put stock back on)
    -4,800 miles
    -at least 3 previous owners
    -bike in flawless condition
    -will need a damper?
    -asking $8,300

    2005 R6
    -all stock, duh.
-would need to put all x-tras on my$elf.
    -$8,399

    2005 R1
-found a dude on Ohio selling them for $9,960 (OUT THE DOOR price!!!!)

Reminder that I live in the city, go out to back road twisties as much as I can. Love going booty-fast on highway / staight-aways, want to do a few tracks days at some point, and have no intention of doing any serious stunting. Insurance will be waaay cheaper on the 03's.

    HELP!

This may sound stupid given the list you had, but are you willing to consider anything besides an R1 or R6? If so I think you could probably find a leftover (new) from 04 or even 03 at a very good price.

    Um, get the Yamaha?

If you can afford a new one, get a new one.
    Otherwise, buy Sidewinder's Flaming R6.

That's definatly a tough decision, but you could make it real easy and just get them all??

Seeing how you mentioned track days, you can't go wrong with the R6. The bike that Sidewinder is selling is a steel for sure, plus it's been very well cared for. That's probably the best deal on the list.

If your buying new wait untill between least 3rd week of January and the 2nd week of February.

Dealers are almost human and looking out over the snow covered bleak landscape waiting for the next recession and all the XMAS money has been spent

Also If you can get a 9700 deal out of Ohio it will still cost at least $300 to get it here so offer locals 10K flat or up to 10200 it will be the same in the end.

If you buy a 1 liter you don't need all that afterbirth crap. JUst buy it ride it for 2 years then when your bored start hanging the squid bling

Buy Sidewinder's R6... it has almost definitely been maintained 1000x better than the ones you're looking at..

And really, the "extras" on those bikes are next to worthless.. other than the pipe nothing on them helps performance in any way and there is a good chance the mods were installed incorrectly...

Of those two the R6 is clearly the better choice.. I wouldn't go near a 3 owner R1 with a ten foot pole you really think three separate people owned an R1 without at least one of them abusing it? If you want that one I would want to know all three previous owners and talk to them personally.

    Looks like,
Sidewinder's R6 and spend the xtra on track gear and track time.

    -OR-

Buy the '05 R6, spend your own cash on gear and track days.

Personally, I'd buy Sidewinders, it's been sorted out, proven and taken care of. Then I'd go real fast not worrying about crashing a new model.

    Good luck.

    SV1000?

Just a thought...if you are hung on a SS bike but don't see yourself wringing all the performance out of it, maybe you could consider an SV1000 or SV650S?

It would give you more than acceptable performance, handling, and is VERY inexpensive to insure in relation to other bikes.

With the $$ you save you could tap into the massive aftermarket support for the bike. You can do full fairing, carbon this/that, make it look however you want. Then there's an abundance of performance/go-fast parts for it as well.

The little SV is a supreme bike for urban riding and the power is very usable at typical street RPMs.

Maybe it's not a contender for you, but perhaps something to consider?

Seems like everyone agrees that if you're gonna get a used R6 then hook up with sidewinder.

Where about in Ohio are you getting that deal?

I usually make a trip out there every couple of months...

ok, my new idea which i'm starting to like more and more...

i'd like a bit more kick than my old R6, but don't wanna give up the handling for a litre...so my new idead:

2005 R6, full system, switch teeth on rear

    discuss.

    -sedition

I am not familiar with switching gearing on a bike...how would that affect the streetability of the bike in urban driving, etc? Would it be too buzzy on the highway?

Could you keep stock gearing and do a full exhaust with computer upgrades/fuel mapping tweaks to get what you are looking for?

-1 +2 would prolly do the trick...it'll make it very snappy...but you will lose top end.....
