best LOCAL place to buy tires

i'm runnin outta time here before the track day.... only two weekends left to prep the bike & myself... so...

where's the best local place to pick up some tires & get em mounted for the cheapest price possible?

lookin to get either dunnie 208zr's or Metz M1's... or some other inexpensive street tire that's suitable for a trackday or two per year

i can get a set of either one of those for less than 220 shipped, but then i gotta worry bout when they get here & getting em mounted & scrubbed in

best LOCAL place to buy tires

unfortunately i don't have a front & rear stand (yet) to get the bike in the air to get the wheels off... so that makes things even shittier. i think i'm gonna have to bite a big bullet on this one cuz if i don't get new tires mounted & balanced i'm gonna have to pray that my rear passes tech at Tony's... it's got plenty of tread, it just has a llllooonnng slice all the way across the width of the rear that's only about 1mm into the tread (not the meat)

looks ugly, but has only gotten better over the last few thousand miles as the tire wears down.

best LOCAL place to buy tires

I always buy mine at http://www.discountmotorcycletire.com/ . I think they can express ship as well.

Then I have them mounted at "The Hawg Shop" in Clinton, MA because my buddy works there and they have a computerized balancer. Let me know if you want to have them mounted there, I can probably get you a discount....

the $ you save ordering tires online will usually make up for the cost of taking the tires somewhere to be mounted.

you shouldn't have to pay $70 to get 2 tires changed if you're bringing just the wheels in, right?? that sounds really high to me... my friend showed me how to change the tires on my bike with a c-clamp and a tire iron and it took all of 15 minutes... also, the tire manufacturing process has gotten so good these days that tires don't really need to be balanced anymore. well i balanced mine anyway, but they were already fine, as expected

You want convenience? Call this guy up: http://www.azmctires.com

He'll come to you and put em on the bike wherever the bike is.

I bought my tires from him.. prolly paid a bit more for the tires, but for the convenience it was worth it.

    Cheers,
    Chris

But when we ride very fast motorcycles, we ride with immaculate sanity. We might abuse a substance here and there, but only when it's right. The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. If you go slow and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.

Yup, its slick as shit. Ride to work, he shows up, takes the wheels off, mounts your new tires of choice (hes a dealer for a number of brands), puts wheels back on...

Just like the auto glass guys

    Can't buy more convenience!

Shameless plug because I work there, but they have Dunlops, Metzlers and a couple of other sport bike tire sizes in stock. If they need to order something that the ydon't have in stock, they'll typically arrive in 2 days. The price quoted for the tires will include changing and balance for wheels off the bike.

Alright, let me make sure I'm reading this correctly. I can order my tires online, bring my bike there and have them change them for me for $70? That is a seriously good deal.

if that's true, it IS a good deal... and that's the scary thing... 70 bucks is alot of money, but for some reason changing bike tires is apparently rediculously fuckin expensive

I got mine from Ron Ayers.com and I paid 230 for front and back, then I called Jim Pidgeon and had him put them on....all together it came to 270 installed.

I paid $40 for a rear wheel (off the bike) to get a tire mounted and balanced. They told me it was $30 over the phone which wasn't too bad but when I got there it was $40. I was pissed, but paid anyways 'cause I needed it done.

$100 is bs. Even on the bike thats a rip-off.

These negative comments about SKY cycle are reaffirming my own thoughts about the place
