    Locks and Covers

So I am finally getting my bike to my new apartment next weekend and need to look into locks and covers for it. This is the first time my bike will be kept outside of a locked garage and even though I am in a nice town I want to make sure she is safe and sound from both the weather and neighborhood miscreants. I have a GSX-R 600 and am looking for both a cover and lock that I can put on every night.

Whaddya got and whaddya suggest for me?

I used one of these for a while CycleShell Enclosure - Outdoor Motorcycle Cover - Protection.

I was pretty happy wth it and it can be locked.

I've been using a Dowco Guardian cover for three years. Thus far is has kept the bike looking beautiful. However, the cover itself is beginning to fall apart. Time to use that lifetime warranty...

    Re: Locks and Covers

I have a nelson rigg cover that is awesome. I forget the model but it's their top of the line, has an aluminized lower section/panel so you can throw the cover on with the exhaust still hot. It has a big soft padded area in the front inside of the cover to protect your windscreen/headlights/front fairings/etc. Also has hook and grommets along the bottom for security.

For locking I have the kryptonite fahgettaboudit chain with new york EV disc lock. It's pretty much the biggest you can get.

    Highly recommend both.

Last time I checked, the best price I could find on the lock/chain was at motorcycle-superstore, they had a pretty big discount on it.

I use the Gaurdian Cover and the Fahgettaboudit Chain and lock, Work great. I always get the biggest Cover The XL its easier the deal with taking on and off ect.

    Re: Locks and Covers

I like my Nelson Rigg cover and I went to Home Depot and got a long contractor loop cable ( loops on both ends ) and a kryptonite cable lock that fits around the rear tire and through the swingarm. I loop one eye through the other around something that wont move and then put the kryptonite through that and through the tire and swingarm.

    Re: Locks and Covers

Sounds good so far. What are thoughts on any other extra care items I might need to start using since the bike will now be outside 24/7? I am pretty nervous about the whole deal since my bike has always been spoiled with indoors care.
