    Longshot but worth a try

Anyone on here have an oil cooler from a 2004 GSXR 600? This includes one that you may have or if you have a good hookup for one from a dealer, custom shop, etc. Hopefully someone can help me out here.

Thats the whole thing with this piece. From what it looks like from online fiches this part is not interchangeable with any other years. The 2003 oil cooler has the same flange pattern but different outlet locations for the hoses.

I dont know if this means it will work or not but I dont wanna spend the $$$ and have it not work. Or even worse have it work for a little then mess up something and leak antifreeze into my engine and blow it.

What is the problem with yours?

Most oil coolers have no coolant, air cools the oil like the radiator, so the worst case would be a leak.

Problem with mine is leak and stupiditiy.

Was changing my oil and the filter wouldnt come off so a friend put a screwdriver through the filter. The filter was able to be taken off but during the process cause a 1/8 x 1/8 hole in the oil cooler.

I am going to bring it to a radiator shop to have the hole welded. Putting my fingers on the inlet, outlet, and hole and blowing into the piece it seems like it holds air so Im assuming its ok.

Ill have the radiator guy pressure test it also. If it checks out everything should be ok.

There is a radiator shop in Rochester, NH if you don't know of one closer. They should be able to fix something like that quickly and usually pretty cheap too.

I got a suggestion for a radiator shop right near me in medford. Im gonna swing it by him tommorrow and hope for the best.

Rather than just weling the hole. I think im gonna have him use some shim aluminum and weld a disc over the whole.

The only things thats worrying me is the though of oil and antifreeze mixing and blowing my engine.

There shouldn't be any coolant in it.

Theres definitely coolant in it. There are two inlets from which the antifreeze flows in and out and then where it bolts up is where the oil flows in and out of the cooler.

    Damn, Suzuki is wierd.

There still shouldn't be coolant in an oil cooler, I agree there is........but it shouldn't be!

i'm guessin he thought it was the same type of oil cooler as I was thinking it was... a mini radiator that the oil just flows through.

Looks more like an oil to coolant heat exchanger... neat, then you only need one main radiator, it's probably a lighter setup and allows shorter & fewer lines.

From the Honda Specs for my 2006 1000rr:

***Liquid-cooled aluminum oil cooler is lightweight and efficient***

So Honda is doing it as well with coolant within the oil cooler

thats exactly what mine is like also. And the skin on the oil cooler is even thinner than the sidewall of the oil filter. Piece of crap especially since only 04 and 05 ones will fit my bike.

hopefully the radiator dude can help me out.

Well a little side note to this story here. I brought the part to a local radiator shop and he was able to repair it for me.

He hot tanked the piece to clean it, repaired the hole that I punched in the piece, and pressure tested the system to ensure that there were no leaks.

He said its going to run about 50 bucks. Not too bad at all beats the 300 to get a new one.

Why do people insist on putting a screwdriver through an oil filter? Get a good oil filter wrench it is always better then a screwdriver.

When you put the oil filter on this time did you put oil on the rubber O ring first? If not take it off and put oil on it before it sticks again.
