looking at a new bike and does this sound weird

I was looking at an 05 cbr1000rr with 31xx miles on it. When I called about it the dealer said he bought it off the SECOND owner. The bike looks to be in mint condition.

Is it just me or does that seem weird that 2 owners since 05 and only 31xx miles? Possibly something wrong with it?

    Thanks Ben

nah some people just buy them and don't ride them. when i worked at the bike shop i saw it all the time. people putting 3K on a bike in 4 years than selling it. you would be surprised at how often that is the case. looks like that bike was just owned by 2 such people in a row.

Doesn't sound weird to me. Especially since so many people are having money problems these past few years.

    I bought a 2005 CBR1000RR for $4400 with 2500 miles on it.

    Some people just don't ride.

However, I'd bring a friend who knows a lot about bikes so he can hear the engine.

Also you're protected by the lemon law worse comes to worse .

Thanks again everyone for the feedback

Check the seat for brown stains. A lot of new riders buy the cool liter bike and scare themselves and don't ride much again. Not unusual.

And some riders have 2,3, or more bikes and don't put a ton of miles on all of them.

I bought a 99 with 6k miles on it. Since the one your looking at is a 2005 I wouldn't be worried. If it was an older bike you would have to prolly change all fluids and check seals cuz it sat for so long with barely any use. Go for it.

I bought an 08 FZ1 last year with 310 miles on it. Had a new pipe, seat and windscreen too. Financial troubles was my guess...

I can solve for X, but not XX.

I once bought a bike at a yard sale that had less than 3K on it, and it was older than the teenage girl that lived in the house and swam in the pool out back (think "2-piece"). I hope you have enjoyed my story and good luck with your purchase and all your future endeavors.

I purchased my old 06 R6 with 1,700 miles back in 2008. I just sold it 2 years later with only 3,800 miles on it. So no, that is not strange.

I sold a bike last year that's now on it's 4th owner and had less that 10,000 miles in 9 years. It spent 3 years at my house as the 3rd bike and was only used for "short trips"

Very common. So many people buy bikes and barely ride. A coworker of mine bought an 05 Gixxer 600 2 years ago. I don't think he's put more then 2000 miles on it since he's owned it.
