Re: Looking for something....electric
Alta stopped at the end of 2018, and to date there still hasn't been a bike you could purchase that matched it. With that stated battery capacity, I don't see how they can meet the claim of full out for an hour. The Alta with a lower peak output in the hands of a top level rider is hard to make 30 mins before capacity or thermals ruin the fun. AJ Cantenzaro does love his Alta though, too bad he didn't find out about them till this year, he would have driven sales for sure had his vids been up while they were still alive.

Re: Looking for something....electric
I suspect like any top end EV their special sauce is the software / hardware combo, batteries are batteries. The Alta’s thermal management and motor left room for improvement. I’d be more skeptical I’d they didn’t have solid names vouching for it… time will tell

This would look to be a match for the alta. If they found some efficiency and cooling, then perhaps 10-15 minutes more is feasible. I would assume the 6 hour trail ride would be in a pretty weak state of tune. But honestly, if it could do 3 hours at a reasonable power output, that would be a homerun. at 11,900, the bike is appealing to me.

Re: Looking for something....electric
So who is going to order one and see if it lives up to the marketing?
80hp motor adds $1000 to the price tag (60hp setup is standard) and a kickstand (for the enduro crowd) is $100 so all told it would be $13000 configured as I would want it (not that I looked or anything).

Re: Looking for something....electric
They really swung for the fences with the instagram-friendly comms manager hire. Bruh is handsome af.
But yeah, the rider's description of listening to the tires break loose is even more compelling.

This is silly, but I have a noisy set of hubs (I9 Hydra) on one mountain bike and 100% quiet ones on the other (Onyx Vesper). No motor, just gravity. It is incredible how much I hate the noisy ones and love the silent ones. You can legitimately hear your tires working. I read reviews on them stating how cool this was, but didn't think it really would be. It absolutely is. On a dirt bike I bet this is amazing.

The Alta MXR I nearly bought in 2018 was $13k. So in 2022 $13k for comparable weight/batt is actually an improvement. If it comes with a charger that'll work in a standard 15A 110v outlet it'll make the Freeride-E a total joke.
Someone buy my 250 XC so I can consider this. :D

"HEY WATCH US COMPARE THIS TO A 450 IN THE REAL WORLD"
.... by not showing it riding with a 450.
Fuckin weak.
Show it blowing the doors of an ICE bike already!
And where is the motard version? That would be SIIIIICK.
-
Re: Looking for something....electric
Issue with motards, they use more juice for longer periods, thermal issues crop up even quicker. This is ultimately why I didn't get the Alta, the MXR would have never actually completed an 8 lap race at NHMS with full power. (Alta did have a sumo, but it was based on their milder battery, not the MXR.) I fully expect they'll wait to see how they fare with a bunch out in the real world before they contemplate 17s.

Re: Looking for something....electric
The District looks rad. I couldn't find any information on the website about what they plan to charge for additional 1.8 kWh battery packs. Judging by the existence of the Founders Edition the bike appears to accept up to 2 of them, but for $8k you get 1.
Interesting executive pedigree; CEO and current design lead are both ex Cleveland Cyclewerks:

Edited to add: "Made in Cleveland, Ohio." is quite a stretch.

$2k if purchased with bike, not sure what cost would be after purchase as you normally get a decent discount during bike purchase.

Re: Looking for something....electric
there's an X260 for rent for $90/day
is it worth taking on the local fire road/single track?
tempted...since I suck at maintenance, and the local rides are shorter rides, and I have a hybrid truck on order, it only seems natural for me to pair it with an electric dirty
has anyone tried the Sur Ron or X260?

Re: Looking for something....electric
If you like fast mountain bikes, rip it. They're not dirtbikes and don't ride like them. Less suspension, very 'flighty' at speed, but silly fun in their own way.

Down in Boca, ripping a Varla around the beach. Dual 1000 watt motors, it’ll do 40 mph. It’s a hoot.
