Looking for old helmets

A helmet's job is to slow down the transfer of energy to the brain. Something very hard (like your skull) doesn't do that job. A helmet is the energy absorbing difference that saves lives.

Using MMA gloves allows the option of an open hand strike as well, which is safer for the attacker's hand than punching.

And finally, we'll be friendly sparring, not all-out wailing on each other, so some measure of control will be encouraged.

With those points mentioned, how is this going to be more beneficial than using traditional sparring headgear? I don't mean to dump on the thread I'm just very curious as to why this is being done.

Have you ever considered that maybe they are learning how to defend themselves against crazed motorcyclists?

The benefit is basically that old, otherwise useless helmets are essentially free.
