Looking like a power ranger pays off...

I was in an accident on Satruday afternoon. Fortunately, I'm mostly okay.

My injuries aren't bad. Doctors say that I should be back to normal in about 6 weeks. I broke the left side of my collarbone, and my left scapula (I have what's called a "floating shoulder"). I'm wearing a neck brace for a few weeks as a precaution, and my left arm will be in a sling for 6 weeks or so. I don't have any road rash since I was wearing my full leathers and armor... I'd be a lot worse off if not for that. And, I only spent one night in the hospital. All-in-all, not too bad for a serious motorcycle wreck. I'm a very lucky man.

What happened? I don't remember. There were no witnesses... I washed out on a turn (probably a low-side). I suspect that I hit some oil/coolant and the bike got out from under me. I was probably speeding at least a little bit, which certainly contributed to the severity of my injuries (though I probably wasn't doing anything terribly dumb). It could have also been an animal, another vehicle that decided to flee the scene, I could have passed out, or maybe one of my tires blew out - I wonder if I'll ever remember? I do remember getting gas about 20 min before the accident, and my next memory is me standing with an ambulance already at the scene and people telling me to sit down. I guess I was out for a while...

I haven't seen my RC51 yet. I'll post a picture when I see it on Thursday. I now have to deal with Doctors, Police officers, insurance companies, and possibly other annoying organizations for the next year or more. Luckily my physical recovery should be quick and fairly easy - but the other stuff will probably be drawn-out and a pain in the ass. Wish me luck. =)

Have a speedy recovery and if you ever remember what happened let us know so hopefully somone can learn from it. Glad you are relatively Ok though. Why would dealing with any of those agencies be an issue, Insurance is in case you get in an accident and you did so just make sure they take care of you/your bike. Police shouldn't be a problem if there aren't 300ft. skid marks or anything...

Hope the bike isn't too bad, I love RC51's

I love riding that road, however there are a couple areas that are pretty technical. Had a few close calls this summer up there. Good to hear you are going to be alright.

Sorry to hear of the accident, but I'm really glad you opted to wear gear. Good call on your part. My quality gear has left me injury free in two accidents thus far and I'm a huge proponent of good gear.

Yeah, Paul's thought of new pavement is something that not everybody thinks about. If you notice the end of the new pavement, there's a big grease slick that continues onto the older pavement that traffic drags along. New pavement is a bit greasy, and the slick on the adjacent old pavement shows that. Man, that is all over the place where I am right now with all the paving going on.

Take your time and heal up right.

    good gear!

    +1
It's hard to resist the urge to pick up the pace on that nice, new smooth pavement, but restraint is needed. That stuff is actually pretty slick.

Tell the insurance company someone was in your lane you had to ditch to save yourself.

It was a grey midsize sedan I think. It might have been a minivan but I do think it was grey or greyish

Glad to hear you are ok, pay close attention to the shoulder injury. Those can haunt you for a long time. Mine is goofed up for life from a wreck in 1985.
