A friend has a 1973 Kawasaki 250 S1 that he plans to sell. He’s likely to put it on Craigslist but as Rice-O-Rama is just a few weeks away I figured I’d ask if anyone has had luck finding buyers at said show. I don’t want to suggest he drag it up there only to find its not worth the time to do it.
The bike’s all original and in nice shape. It’s been garaged since it was bought new. He still has the top trunk that holds the helmet, tool kit etc. The only work done on it over the years has been tires, rebuilt the carbs last year and just replaced the fuel lines. Wish I had an interest as its got just 14.5K miles but I’ve too many hobbies already.
Anyway, as he’s retired I’ll be helping him post it somewhere and am looking for pointers. Thanks for any suggestions.

How much he asking for it? I remember seeing bikes there for sale when I've gone before.
Like I said they say, nothing stops a party barge.
97' Ducati 900SS - Sometimes runs
Great bikes, I had one, loved it.
Why not post it here first? Doesn't cost anything, and it might spark some interest. I've sold two bikes on NESR and bought one.
Where is it? How much does he want? Does he have a title or maybe an old registration in his name? Or is it BOS only.
Maybe someone like me would be interested, depending ... .
As to Rice-O-Rama, my impression the past couple of years is that most people going treat it as a bike show. I didn't see a lot of sales happening of bikes or parts. Just my impression.
(Speaking of 2V Ducatis, I had a '97 900SS, too, yellow, half fairing. Loved it. Sold it.)

And don't believe everything you think.

Cool bike! Looks mint, should go quickly.
My girlfriend's dad has a few of these, though they are 350s I believe.

Wait, 250? Formula 300 legal!![]()
Pretty sure we met and talked on a Seacoast ride like 8-9 years ago, I'm in Arlington. Loved that Ducati, so why did I sell it?Sold it in 2000 I think it was to a Harley rider from Quincy who wanted a small bike.
Back to the Kawasaki S1, will somebody please buy it so I can move on with my life?

Sorry for the late reply. Dealing with an elder parent and nursing care. Thanks for the info on Rice-O-Rama. Your impression was similar to mine but I usually get there early in the day.
Anyway, he says has the title. As for what he wants for it...he doesn't have a firm price. He said $3.5K OBO. I don't know jack about old the value of od bikes so I can't help here other than advising him to go with OBO.
Being that he is retired and doesn't do email, if anyone is interested in seeing the bike can message me and I'll pass along the information.
No problem, very understandable.
I follow discussions on britbike.com about old guys like me selling off their bikes. One thing I've done is make up an inventory that my survivors could use to get rid of the bikes, parts, gear, tools, etc., suggested values, whom to contact. To estimate values of the bikes, I check the price guides, then look at asking and selling prices, CL, eBay, NPS, and so on, and check the insured value on my policies. To get top dollar, then I have to ask how long do I want to wait to find the one buyer who will pay it.
I haven't followed vintage Japanese prices, maybe someone here is a member of VJMC and could comment. My impression, though is that $3500 is a pretty high starting point, it's not an H1 or H2. But I could be *WAY* off. But too rich for my blood!
Title, that's very good. Whereabouts is the bike?
=========================================
EDIT --
I checked three price guides for 1973 S1:
Hagerty Insurance agency: $2500 "average value"
KBB: $2840 "excellent condition when purchasing from a dealer"
NADA:
Excellent $5,315
Very Good $3,375
Good $1,830
Fair $1,125
Poor N/A
FYI and FWIW ...

Bike is in Attleboro, Mass. Thanks for the input. I'll give him a shout tomorrow about the realistic pricies.
