How loud is my Yoshi pipe gonna be without any packing material inside it?

My 2001 GSXR 750 came with a Yoshi slip-on and I took it apart tonight to see what the internals looked like. I removed both caps and pulled out all the steel wool and the thick fiberglass packing material. The fiber glass was REALLY thickly packed in there. THe bike has always been too quiet for my liking as compared to the Akras on my Ninjas....

My intentions are to take some heavy duty aluminum foil to wrap around the center tube and secure it with some hose clamps. That way the heat doesnt affect the outside of the can. By doing this it will essentially make it a straight through pipe.

Anyone with experience with this sort of thing and how loud I should expect the pipe to be?? I am looking for more rumble but not be too obnoxious...

Have you tried asking about this on gixxer.com? I think this might go on the hall of fame along with the guy who put NOS Energy drink in his gas tank, or the guy who lost his fingers trying to lube his chain with the bike running, in gear, with the tire moving.

    Don't do it.

If you wanted to know what it would sound like without a muffler, why didn't you remove the muffler to find out?

Just buy some fmf packing material and only go around the pipe once. It will be louder but not stupid loud. It will most likely sound like shit. It's gonna sound like a gsxr yelling into a coffee can

Dude, if you want it louder don't do that. Just cut it down and make it a shorty.Real easy to do and since its apart your half way there..you wil get the loud your looking for.

I have a Jap yosh shorty and its perfect so my bud cut his down to a 6" can..looks good and sound nice

Let him do what he wants to do... Jeesh.

Seriously, I agree with the lighter packing or shorty can. If you go shorty just cut off 1/4 first and try that.

Shorty or less packing. The only thing more annoying than a Harley with straight pipes is another Gixer with straight pipes.

Reynolds Wrap is the best for exhaust pipes. Don't cheap out w/ the Stop & Shop brand.

Yes blame it on the tin foil. Use it for a hat instead.

Put the quietest muffler back on your bike and strap this to your ass.
This way you choose on the fly whether you want to annoy people or not.

and this was before it was custom mapped with a PCIII. Still loud as hell, but not as high pitched. Glad I didn't spend money to make the bike sound like this, because I would have punched myself in the dick already.

don't think it's enforced, but I heard there is a decibel limit for bikes on the track. you may want to reconsider going open pipes or no packing.
