    MA Title/Reg

Trying to sort through Registry verbiage and very enigmatic and incomplete responses from my insurance agent.

What is required to register a bike in MA that is purchased out of state without a transfer of plates (no existing bike to transfer from). Have RMV-1, insurance is active, bike will have a lien so title wouldn't be in my hands anyways. TIA!

BoS, RMV-1 and taxes and golden?

If everyones willing to fudge it a little bit the bike could theoretically be registered before pick-up, right?

it really depends.. are you buying the bike from a dealer or private sale?

If you're buying it private sale you should DEFINITELY be getting a title from the seller.

    - Bring the title and bill of sale to insurance company ( i would only have the seller fill in the mileage and sign the title. no buyers name since i "think" the owner will be the bank. they will know how to fill this in properly)

    - the Insurance company should give you the title back filled out and the RMV-1 form to bring to the RMV(which is proof from the insurance company than you have insurance on the bike for the RMV)

    - the RMV will then charge you taxes, a registration fee and title fee for a new title which will be sent to the bank till you pay off your loan and give you a license plate for the bike.

    - then get an inspection with in 15 days

Its from an out of state dealer. I just hate the way the registry does things. Explicit, concise instructions would clear all this up.

    Figured out the process is:
-pay dealer, get BoS and title
    -bring both to registry
-get registered, title goes electronic and goes to HFCU, registry takes physical title.

I wouldn't go to the registry without bringing those forms to your insurance company and getting an RMV-1 form though.. maybe the dealers gonna do this with your insurance company?

Without that form in Mass you will not get registered though, make sure you have it. It proves you have insurance on the bike and you will not get registered without proof of insurance.

I hear ya, I put the bike back on the road yesterday but can't find a ride up to Haverhill to pick it up till my girl comes home from Texas later today.

Are you gonna have the bike this weekend? I may be down for a ride.

RMV-1 needs to be stamped by your insurance company -- you can't simply fill it in yourself. However, most companies can email you a PDF that has been electronically stamped so you don't necessarily have to go to their offices.

Also, I registered a bike last week, and the Roslindale RMV told me it's 1 week to get an inspection, not 15 days as someone mentioned before. Not sure who's right, but just wanted to make you aware.

roslindale RMV was correct: you have 7 calendar days from the registration date to get a vehicle inspected.

got it home Saturday, but unfortunately had some personal events on Friday that took the rest of my weekend away. And now we wait for the next week of rain to go away.

Yes, RMV-1 was prepped by insurance company. And yes on the 7 days timeframe.

Fucking rain blows, was in Wilmington all day today for my new/temporary job with a friend of mine I grew up with.

Should be riding to work next nice day (Wednesday it looks like) and quiet possiblly getting an inspection sticker done whilst i'm up that way.
