i asked if the bill of sale needed to be notarized. she said no.
Thank you for this, I appreciate it. I might give it a go. Only issue will be with getting the bike to the police station without tags, as I don't have a truck of my own. Maybe I can get them to come to me?

    I'll keep this updated.

Trailer. Home depot truck. Buddy with truck.

Randy is correct. Effective in 2015 everything MY2000 or newer needs a title, no exceptions. No title exempt anymore.

back to SRTie4k's problem, I think he has an asshole town clerk making up his/her own rules (not unheard of)
Yeah, I think I heard that, too. My 5 bikes range from 1960 to 1995, so that wasn't a factor. It also does not invalidate the point I was making in any way whatsoever -- that sometimes you can get, and it makes sense to, a title for a bike that doesn't need one by state law.

It is true. Law was changed for 2015. My (very helpful) town clerk called Concord and confirmed it. Law changed. Is being actively enforced. No more 15+ years old. Now rule is MY2000 or newer.

No need for a police station. Any motorcycle inspection station can fill out a VIN verification form.

I'm still giving the PO the benefit of the doubt and waiting to see if he comes through with a copy of the previous registration. If I don't have anything by end of next week, I'm gonna try your method.

Re: Maine bike with no title transferring to NH

Well I finally got the paperwork from the guy in Maine yesterday; a copy of the bill of sale, the lien release, the Certificate of Origin and a copy of the previous registration. I took all that to City Hall this morning and got my bike titled and registered in all of 5 minutes, no questions asked.

Thanks for all the help, but maybe someone else can try the dirt bike to street bike method.

My trailer is in Goshen, 30 miles N.

Toying with this idea (VT) for the '75 BMW. I plan to leave it in NH. It has a MA title though so might just stay here.

Yes. Inspection stations or Police if memory serves.

Re: Maine bike with no title transferring to NH

FWIW when I bought the TrailWay 200 in Maine, the guy didn't have the registration. He went to his town hall and they charged him $3 for a copy.

I was all in favor of taking the path to least resistance, until I read a thread on Advrider about a guy who had purchased a pretty expensive bike - believe it was a KTM Adventure - with a title from another state. Then the state police showed up from a third state and confiscated the bike. The bike had been stolen in state 1, titled in "easy title" state 2, and then sold in state 3.

So as much as a PITA MA is, and to a lesser extent NH, when you sell a bike with a MA or NH title it's all good.

i can forward you the statement of fact form if you give me your email.
Found the Statement of Fact form on the intertubes here

Is it acceptable to sign your own name as the 'mechanic'. I mean I am my own mechanic. Is that a problem. Or is the intent that it be a NH inspections officer?

As you say, may not even be required.

Re: Maine bike with no title transferring to NH

since youre the mechanic i dont believe your signature would even be needed as it would be a bit redundant but thats bureaucracy. since it says "mechanic/owner" id say your signature is fine. i cant remember what i put but i suspect i signed it myself.
youll probably need a VIN verification form as well. if you need a signature stop by and see me and ill do it. i trust you, so just bring a pic of the VIN and the form filled out and ill get you squared away.
