we need to get these homeboys on the track. Maybe we can get the marines to cover the cost of a new road track at NHIS!

Ehh, I can see it, once they come back from getting shot at and nearly killed on a daily basis, they probably need that adrenaline rush. Motorcycles do that. Sad that so many are being killed though.

So, what this statement says is that only sportbikes can go in excess of 100mph?

Arent Marines normally stationed on boats? I thought they only went on land for backup and special operations... It would make sense that not many casualties on their end on this war that mainly takes place in cities in the middle of the desert. Now if it was talking about the Army then that would be different. I also wonder if their information saying "Enemy fire" is including IED's and suicide bombers. Just curious...

Also, isn't part of their training to desensitize them to lots of things and make them believe they are nearly invincible so that in the heat of battle they can make decisions quickly and do what they need to do quickly to stay alive? I wonder if that plays into it at all.

I have never been in the military but have friends in it. So if I am wrong just correct me if I am under the wrong impression on this stuff.

Not at all. Marines conduct a large percentage of ground opperations. I spent 10 years active duty in the Marine Corps, and I never spent a minute on a ship. Marines are commonly deployed on ships, and that is the common means of transportation to a combat zone. Additionally, Marines are constantly forward deployed in different regions of the world so they could react quickly to any world crisis.

Desensitization is not part of any military training as far as I am aware. Quick decision making, keeping bearing and discipline are things that are part of our training.

...i saw it all the time when i was stationed in yuma. mommy and daddy aren't around to say no. i don't know how many guys, and gals i saw run out and buy the hottest 600, or 1000 availible. some didn't even know where the clutch lever was when they bought the bike...i know cause i had to reluctantly ride it home for them. the only experinced guys around were the older (SNCO or Officer) harley types. i tried to help out and point people in the right direction where i could... some became proficant riders, but most sold rashed up bikes within a year and never road again.
