    Mass Motorcycle Road Test

    Hey riders!

I have an appointment on May 31st for my motorcycle license test. I have about 4k in riding experience now, and would like for anyone to tell me what I'm probably going to be faced with when I go for my road test. My appointment is in Sturbridge.... Has anyone taken a road test there, what's the track record for the examiners. Is there anything that I should know. I have to touch up my slow speed maneuvering but is there anything else I should be aware of?
I'll be taking the test on my 05 Kawi ZX6R
Is it alright to wear a mirrored shield?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the time guys/ girls!

I would go to the site after hours or on the weekend and practice your figure 8's and google what else the staties have you do.

yea, figure 8s will be the toughest part, quick acceleration and complete stop, stopping coming out of turn, and a quick run thru cones, can't think of what else is on it

i did two circles to the left, two to the right, a figure eight, then go up the parking lot shift to second hand signal and turn around. A mentally challenged, simian, quadriplegic could pass that test. It really should consist of an actual road test but what are you going to do?

They require hand signals? I'm not sure I even know them...

I was asking the same thing last year. mine expired and have not takin it in years. it was actualy kinda weak. i practiced in a parking lot with no one around and wrked on the tightest figure 8s ever. then when i got there it was like " do a few left and right circles, go straight, turn around and give some throttle. brake when i raise my hands. " thats it. made me wonder a bit.....
he did say," if you can not pass this then you shouldnt be riden." basically telling you he was givin it to me.

good luck.... turn that head when u turn, your bike goes where you look.....

I took the test in 1980 in Beverly. The guy took two of us to the side street next to the RMV. He had us each do a figure 8 in the street, and told us if we didn't dab a foot, we passed. Which we both did.

Here and I thought the NH test was easy (and pointless).

4K experience? You'll probably do fine just based on that assuming you haven't fallen down a lot

Slow speed, just don't forget to "get off the bike" and counter-balance. No, not lean, counter. And as said already, look where you want to go, not what you're afraid of hitting.

How does the MA road test compare to the MSF BRC Skill Evaluation? Tougher? Easier?

yup.. figure 8 were the hardest all though you have way more miles than I ever did when I took the test. You may not have a problem.

Is it the norm for there to be only one test in the next 2 months?

    Re: Mass Motorcycle Road Test

I was out practicing my figure 8's and circles in a parking lot, I was trying to go as tight as possible, but realistically how tight/ wide a circle, figure 8 are they looking for? I get the counter steering and target fixation thing, I've been working on it in the real world with cornering and such. I do need a little work on my slow stuff, I put my foot down a couple times, but that was in the first couple minutes, then I got the hang of slow counter steering.
And the availability of motorcycle road tests in Massachusetts is a joke!

    Re: Mass Motorcycle Road Test

i took the test on my brothers 650r and was told to drive to the other end of the parking lot, on the way back do two figure eights and 2 rotations in opposite directions for circles. he literally told me "that's a nice bike, take it easy and don't worry about showing off or anything, just don't touch the ground" i actually asked him how tight it should be and he told me as wide as i want. With 4k miles in riding experience you should be okay for it.

Took the test today and passed with flying colors! It was pretty easy, The examiner (they no longer use uniform Troopers) had me do my hand signals, did a safety check, then had me do 2 circles to the left, 2 to the right (as tight as possible), and 1 figure 8. After that he called me over to him, He redirected me to a "road" set up, instructed me to ride up, shifting into 3rd, then back down again, turn and repeat. he stopped me after that, handed me my permit back and said "this is now your license until your plastic arrives!"

I did ask if Sturbridge was the only location doing motorcycle tests and he said currently yes it is, The local registries are so backed up with cage road tests that they are only performing M endorsements at that location.

Alright now, Where are the rides at?

I should probably add that the area that he had me do the circles and figure 8 in was probably 40x80 feet, so you would have to really fuck it up to not be able to circle without putting a foot down making a circle that tight!

Whatcho riddin'? A 600cc sport bike?

Ever seen a middle aged noob try to do figure 8's on a 700 lbs cruiser he just picked up the weekend before?

I think what I'm getting at is: yes, some people fuck up those tests that much.

Conversely, ever seen a 17 year old that has probably been riding in the dirt since he dropped off of mom's teat run a test on a ratty dual sport?

Grats on passing. Stay safe, have fun. Hopefully we see you 'round.

    Re: Mass Motorcycle Road Test

Sorry to dig up this old thread on only my second post. I have my road test tomorrow (I've been licensed for years, MASS RMV lost my M classification when I relocated from Cali... long story)

Any how, I have my road test in Sturbridge MA at 353 Main Street... but I can't see a thing there on Google Maps. I don't suppose anyone could help me narrow down where I need to be at the time of my road test? Trying to call the RMV is like trying to call Elvis.

    Thanks for any help

(p.s. Hi, my name is Anders and I am new here )

When I took my test in 1980, we went to the side road nex tto the Beverly registry. The guy had us each do a figure 8 in the road, and come back, and that was that.
