    the point and shoot method

Going to other tracks really makes you appreciate Loudon. I just got back from a track day at Texas World Speedway (TWS). It is a really, really fast track. Two of the turns are at least 140mph turns and most of the other turns are also really fast. In addition, there are a couple of very long straight aways.

As a result, the folks at the track focus on drives out of corners rather than corner speed (also, braking is not really important on this track...in other words, good braking skills don't make that much of a difference). They basically preach giving up corner speed for a better drive out of the corner...sort of the point and shoot method.

While it was really exciting to do a track day at TWS, the lack of a technical challenge could make this track boring in the long run (particularly for racing....thankfully, the racing down here moves around between 4 or 5 different tracks).

I didn't really appreciate how interesting Loudon is until seeing a track that is the complete opposite.

I'm waiting for the photo guy to post pics.

The best I can do is a random youtube video.

YouTube - CMRA Motorcycle endurance racing @ TWS

Note: the track is 2.9 miles long...so a lap is 1:50 minutes.

I did it with ridesmart. I have heard some negative reviews about them, but I thought they put on a good show. The instruction was good. I was 100% happy with them.

Their track days are usually 100-150 bucks. Can't lose at that price.

Let me know if you are doing a trackday down here.

There are some patches...but I never had any problem with them. There were a few bumps that bothered some people, but they were nothing after loudon.

    I doubt it.

I was just saying that in the long term a tighter track is a lot more challenging...in the short term a fast track is fun.

Re: the point and shoot method

Loudon is the only track I have ever ridden on and that too only twice!
Having heard from some other friends who have done track days on other tracks, they never talk about different technical challenges for each turn.

At loudon I felt every turn has a different challenge even if they looked similar...but no two turns look similar!

For eg. I thought that the little transitional bump at turn 3 was a defect but realised its been put there as a challenge....

Do not know if a real technical track makes for a good 'first track'..I think its like learning dating skills while trying to date a girl who plays hardest to get!
