Message from MMA re paving on i93

Forwarded note from Paul Cote of MMA (Mass Motorcycle Assn)

    From: Massachusetts Motorcycle Association [mailto:claimscote@aol.com]
    Sent: Friday, May 02, 2008 7:10 AM
Subject: Road work, m'cycles use caution

Please review and pass along to other riders on your list who travel on
    Route 93, south of Boston.
    -----------------------
    Date: May 2, 2008

    From: Paul W. Cote,
    www.MassMotorcycle.org

Starting today, MassHighway will be repaving the HOV lane south of Boston
on Route 93, where grinding and repaving from the Braintree split to Savin
Hill will be going on the next 3-4 weeks.

The road will be very 'rough' during these 3-4 weeks, with raised manhole
and drain covers, all especially dangerous to motorcyclists who generally
    use this HOV lane.

We have requested MassHighway put up "Motorcycles use Caution" signs in
    this area.

    Thank you
    PC

Since the HOV is just one of the lanes from the opposite side of rush hour, does this mean both left lanes NB and SB are going to be a mess? Or is is pretty much the whole stretch of 93 all lanes?

Repaving is also taking place on 495 both northbound and southbound with about 5 miles of grooved pavement on each side. Last week they were between exits 25 and 22 on the southbound side and somewhere between exits 25 and 30 on the northbound side.

The entire xway is fucked up. Not just the HOV lane. The whole thing looks like down town Baghdad. They started in on the storm drains last month and left them all with giant gullys surrounding them. God forbid a bike hits one...

If Mass highway has anything to do with it, it will be repaved very very badly.

    Thanks for the heads up.

It's about time. I feel like I'm on a slalom course out there.

I was DRIVING on 93 south of Boston and was in fear for my life. Really, stay away from it on two wheels if you can... it's pretty fucking bad.

Thanks for the heads-up guys! I haven't been on 93 yet this spring and by the sounds of it, I'll wait just a little bit longer.

Re: Message from MMA re paving on i93

Just rode to visit my Momz for Momz day, and hopped on 93 south and then that voice went off in my head "repaving 93." I was too far to turn around and get my truck, so I stayed right, and went slow.

Wasnt too bad as long as you stay right going both NB and SB. The left 2 lanes of NB traffic are grooved, the right 2 are not (yet). SB, they had the barriers pulled out, so I really couldnt tell.

Either way though, just be careful and take it slow.
