    Metal to metal rear brakes

Had to do a rear brake pad swap on the side of the road on my wife's 2014 R1200GS. Bike has 7500 miles. Apparently there are issues with premature brake wear in this model.

You had pads with you? That's handy!

Got pads from the dealer their service department was swamped and I'd have to wait several hours. They're the same pads as on my bike so l will be carrying a spare set.

Yikes. Those germans have a hard time with their rear ends.

Re: Metal to metal rear brakes

I have always found I wear rear brake pads first because of use during low speed maneuvering, but 7500 does sound a bit premature

I put 20 on my old RT and never replaced pads. I was expecting similar life on the wife's GS. She's a good rider and uses the front brake way more than the rear.

Did it wear out or delaminate catastrophically? I've never had it happen on motorcycles but one of the front pads on my car delaminated a little under a year ago and created a hell of a racket until the pad material broke up into small enough pieces to fall out of the caliper. Then it was metal on metal but still stopped pretty well.

I think they just wore at an incredible rate.
