I have yet to ride one, but I'll be looking for a cheap one in the summer

These are surprisingly fun sporty cruisers. Plus you can change them up with thousands of options readily available. I don't think the price will depreciate either in the next two years.

I was at a local dealer a few months back and saw one of these. I asked how old it was as it looked new. It was a brand new 2020. I was shocked to find out that they still make them. It's sort of amazing how those M109R's are like the XR600L of cruisers. Been around FOREVER (2006) and have a loyal following. I never see them on the road. I think they only come out on warm summer nights and ride with the Busa crowd.

That was one of the bikes I looked at when I ended up going with the Low Rider last year. I absolutely loved how the thing looked & sat until I went to see it and try it on for size. "...I can TOTALLY see me on that..." quickly turned to "...oh, hell no..." the instant I was standing next to it.

Anyone own, have ridden, or want the new BMW R18 cruiser?

I’m not in the market for one, just curious.

I read one review that wasn’t exactly high praise.

I get emails from a place called Euro Cycle, I think they are in Vegas, they always have smoking deals, like a Demo R18 for thirteen grand. But they are wicked few happy so it ends up being a few thousand more, at least.

All the reviews I've read have been less than favorable, especially when compared to the US offerings. It does look pretty cool though, at least the ones I've seen in person.

Haven't ridden one. But like you guys, the reviews I've read haven't been exactly flattering.

There is one guy in Yankee Beemers riding an R18 and he gets to all the events including BMWMOV. But I believe he is an employee of Wagners, so the purchase was not hands-off. Not certain that is the case.

BMW tried this before with the R1200C, and the resale value was abysmal.

    Re: Metric Cruisers

I *LOVE* to see more competition in this segment. The more choices for cruisers, tourers & baggers we have, the better if you ask me. In theory, it should get everybody playing to bring their A-Game.

But in my opinion, you can't play in this game if you can't find a way to mount AT LEAST mid-controls. I personally like forward controls, but that's most likely my injuries talking. It's a beautiful bike, but I feel BMW really missed that point.

A friend still rides one and she absolutely loves it. She bought hers new in (I don't remember), and she rides the shit out of it. People may have met her if they took one of the NH motorcycle safety classes - she's been an instructor for years and she usually rides to the classes.

I know a 5’7” girl who rides an Indian Challenger (Road Glide). She had a bit of trouble in the gravel lot of High Octane Saloon in Laconia.

Anyone know if the frame length and/or wheelbase is similar on the Street Bob to the rest of the soft tail line?

The street bob has mid controls, which are alright, but after riding the Scrambler I feel kinda folded up.

But forward controls don’t seem like they would push my feet much further as there isn’t a lot of room left on the underside of my frame, by the looks.

But I like how the forward controls feel on my brothers Breakout.

Kinda leaning toward highway bars/pegs as a cheaper alternative than committing to forward controls.

That and I can retain the mids so I can stand up and get that wedge out!

Depending on what year it is, I'm pretty sure the frame & wheelbase are pretty much the same throughout the Softail lineup.

According to their website, forward controls will move your feet up 7-1/2". I looked up a 2020 Street Bob, can't remember what year yours is.

    Re: Metric Cruisers

I really like the R18. Motor is beautiful, sheet metal is beautiful. The only bit I don’t like are the factory pipes…easy fix.

The bit I struggle with is the functionality of the bike. I’m very much a horses for courses guy and I’m not sure how it would fit in with the styles of riding I enjoy. They make a touring version which looks very nice and has substantial geometry changes but I feel like you kind of miss on the original design of the platform.

It’s almost like a Rocket III if the Rocket III we’re executed well.
