Michelin Pilot Power vs Dunlop Sportmax Q2

Always used Michelin for the past 3 years but wanted to try out some thing else so I have both sets Front and Rear of Dunlops and Michelins to replace the OEM. which ones are best for a mix of spirited rides and around town riding.

I always used michelin on my street bikes too, but if I was in the market for a set now, I'd give the q2s a try, you can get them dirt cheap at the moment.

I just put Q2's on the 848 this spring and gave about 2k miles on them so far. I have no complaints. They seem to stick well, heat up quick with semi-aggressive riding. I was hoping to flog them on the track soon and give them a real test soon.

If this was comparing Q2's with 2CT's there'd be something to discuss. With regular PP's there's really no point. Q2's ftw.

Put Dunlops on 3 yrs ago, Never got confident with them. Did a couple of track days in NH and Pocono but just never liked them. Put pp's on 2 yrs ago and love em. Warm up quick and real grippy on street and track. In fact just ordered a new pair.

Either one will be fine. The Q2 is a good tire, as is the PP.

The standard Michelin Pilot Power is still their best selling tire worldwide for a reason. It's cheap, and it just plain WORKS.

A friend of mine rides a 2007 GSX1000. He does all street rides and twisties - he is pretty aggressive. The Dunlops got terrific reviews everywhere including the UK. He tried them and didn't like that it takes them longer to warm up than the Michelin. He sold them with 500 miles and got the Michelin. I would go with the Michelin

Re: Michelin Pilot Power vs Dunlop Sportmax Q2

I ran a set of Powers on my TL and was a little scared by the profile. On my first trip to T***** Rd with them I was to the edges of the back tire after my warm up pass and was afraid I was going to ride off the side of the tire. With the Qualifiers I still end up with 1/8" chicken strips after some fairly quick(for me) passes. I'm not the fastest guy out there but not the slowest either so take it for what you will....

Tires dates have no effect upon performance.

What does the year old tire do better than the two year old tire?

Absolutely nothing I never said it effected performance. At some tire sites you can buy tires for a good deal but when you receive them their 5+ years old and when they get that old they'll wear down a lot faster then a brand new one. So was just stating I got the tires for a good price and they were essentially new
