    Tiller,

Talk with CHR1s at the cool group site.

    Michelin Pilots Comparison "Please Read"

I went from the stock 207's to the Pilots and I have no complaints about them other than they take longer to warm up.... What do you want to know about them? I can't say how they are on a track but for street riding at the level I do (not necessarily as aggressive as some of the other riders on this board... but at times more squidly ) I can't fault em yet.. although I have heard the new Rennersports are the tire to have now...

I switched from Dunlop 207zr to Pilot Sport on my '99 R1. The Pilots had better grip. Only problem was that the front pushed real bad with the pilots. I didn't find out til later that the front pilot is taller than the 207zr and the rear pilot is shorter than the 207zr. Peter at GMD Computrack told me this when I took my GSXR1000 to him for suspension set-up.

Honestly, I LOVE the D207's and I don't think I'll run anything else on the Tiller. There! That's my input. No science to it, just as I see it...

You can make due with a pair of jack stands. That's how I did it before JC got his balancer. It's not very sophisticated, but it does work if you're patient...

It's actually pretty simple. First, you'll need wheel weights. I prefer the stick-ons over the clips, but that just boils down to personal preference...

I've only done spin stuff, but it's still simple shit. If you're using jack stands, make sure they're level and that your wheel stays centered between them. When ya mount the tires, make sure you line up the 'dot' on the tire with the valve stem. That 'dot' marks the lightest point on the tire. Then all ya gotta do is simply spin the wheel as it rests on the stands so that it does about 4 or 5 full revolutions...

Take some tire chalk, and mark where the wheel stops spinning at it's lowest point, and spin it again. The wheel should stop in the same spot. Add some weights to the OPPOSITE end of the wheel (the top of the wheel), and spin it again. You may hafta move the weights a coupla times, so don't secure 'em, just use a little bit of tape to hold 'em in place...

When all is said and done, when you spin the wheel, you DON'T want it to keep stopping in the same spot. Obviously, the heaviest part of the wheel is gonna stop at the bottom. If you've done it right, it'll stop randomly when you spin it...

I'm not sure if I've explained it clearly or not. But if you're not mounting your own tires, no need to take any of this in. Balancing should damn well be part of the price and process of mounting when you bring 'em to a shop. And while the jack stand process isn't the most desirable, you can achieve decent results with it as long as you're very patient...
