Straw poll v2: replace fairings or sell as-is?

I'm going to be selling my 2000 VFR800 soon. It has a bit of road rash from a low-side at NHMS. I've found a set of fairings on eBay for $175, so should I buy these to make the bike look better or sell it as-is?

This is how the bike looks right now:

The bike has ~40k miles so it's not pristine by any means, even with new fairings. The tank is a very slightly different shade of yellow to the rest of the bike, and fairings aren't gonna fix that. I suppose I could get tank grips...

I'd be afraid of the ebay fairing having the same problem. When the tank's off, it's usually not as obvious because it's separate. But when two panels come together, and one's a little faded or more brilliant, it stands out. Enough that I almost think I'd prefer the rashed one.

List it as is, at the price you want. If no one bites roll the dice on the ebay piece.

I'll go check in the garage again, but I'm pretty sure the front fairings are a different shade to the tank and a different shade to the rear fairings too. I think Stevie Wonder laid the paint down on this thing..

I think I paid $2700 for it with maybe 25k miles, and that was 6-7 years ago now. I'll be very pleasantly surprised if I can get $1600 for it. Right now it has a $750 Ohlins rear shock in it, I'll pull that out before selling it and put it back to stock. The shock should be easy to sell as they're quite hard to find..

My friend sold his 2 years back for $1200. Same color and year, no rash but not pretty in any way. His had around 80k miles and Givi cases.

    as is

here's what happened when I sold bikes:
-used bike has some flaw - cosmetic, cable, whatever...buyer demands you drop the price. You say no, you'll fix it.
-you spend $$ and time getting it fixed
-bike fixed - original buyer stops responding, or "my wife blah blah" and is not interested, new buyers low ball you anyways without any flaws, eventually sell when you wait long enough at same price before repair.

So I say set your price properly and just wait.

Hey that bike cleaned up real nice after a wash, polish and wax! Aside from the deformed fairing where the RR was it was actually quite the looker and no one guessed the mileage. I rode it for a season and sent it down the line.

That yellow (Pearl Shining Yellow) was only available in 2000 so if it were me I'd find a fairing. Really nice color once polished up and sitting in the sun.
