    Hit a deer last night...

Must've been my lucky day yesterday, cause I'm pretty much ok. The deer ran across 138 west after the Jamestown Bridge. I had hauled the bike down to like 30 mph and and was looking right to see if his buddies were coming too. Then he hit me from the left. I have some rash where my jacket and pants separated, and some bruises, but otherwise ok.

The police were very helpful, and told me that there are a lot of deer crossing there. I recommend being extra careful in this area. And, of course, ATGATT. Pants that zip into the jacket seem like an awesome idea all of a sudden.

Anyways, figured I'd share my story and hopefully save someone some grief. I would never have expected the deer to double back on me like that.

    Stay safe out there!

I cant imagine hitting a deer on a bike. I grazed one once with my car and I was scared shitless. I drove 15mph the rest of the way home

The guy who runs Micatech (NH) hit a deer on a dirt road at 30-40mph on his way to work. He was on a dirt road. He remembers seeing the deer, and next thing he remembers is looking up from his hospital bed and finding out it was 6pm. A woman (bird watcher) driving up the road found him lying in the road, unconscious, and just happened to have a cell phone with reception, and know the name of the dirt road, or it could have been much worse.

His wife uses her maiden name so the hospital called his 80yo mom in FL, who has always been against the idea of his riding. So I've since added "Wife" to the title field in my cell phone - my mom is 89....

But if you are thinking about getting hard bags - a Micatech can kick a deer's ass, and still open and close....

I live right there (30 seconds off the exit) and there are a ton of deer in the area. Glad you're alright.

On another note, does RI have a hunting season

The deer got away... So I'll have to mooch someone else's venison unless I take up hunting (tempting...) Roadkill would be fine

The bike (2004 GS500F) is much less damaged that I thought it would be. Somehow broke the front brake lever even though she went down on the left side. Forks look straight, and the bars don't look too bad either. Might take a quick spin around the neighborhood to see how she tracks, but I'm taking a close look at the frame first just in case. Starts right up though! Plastics took a beating.

Will need a left hand mirror, new bar end weights, the two upper screws are missing from the windshield. My EZ pass got hit by a car after I dragged the bike out of the road. Helmet will need to be replaced.

Seeing all the deer on the side of 138 all the time makes me feel lucky to be here today...that stretch of road between Rt1 and 1A used to be one of our late night drag strips. Can't mention the speeds, but I used all the power of my R1 at the time

    Glad you're OK

A few cruisers on the scene of a pickup vs. buck on 114 in Middleton this morning at 7 AM, right between the old registry building and Home Depot. Bucky was laid out in the middle of 114. I was on my bike going the opposite direction. Needless to say this was a good reminder.
