    Modifications & Inspection

I am planning on doing some modifications to my bike and one includes a fender eliminator kit. However I am wondering just how much of a pain it is to remove all the mods to make the bike inspect-able again every year.

Do you guys generally spend a day resetting you bike, inspecting and putting it back the way you want it?

I am thinking about getting this kit with the integrated tail light but know that it will take time for me to "reset" next year when inspection comes up.

I was also thinking about this kit which "looks" to be legal enough to pass inspection.

    Re: Modifications & Inspection

Integrated tail lights I wouldn't personally do, they are a crap shoot if you can pass Ma Inspection or not. BOTH of the examples you posted would fail for plate location and even if you did 'put it back' for inspection, once you went back to no inspectable you would get hassled by most cops. One mans 2 cents.

Most places could care less about fender elminator kits as long as you have your plate visable & have some kind of illumination on it for night riding. If the inspection site you go to has an issue with it the next one down the road will let it slide.

    Re: Modifications & Inspection

Depends entirely on where you bring it.

Some places hardly look at the bike.
Some places let things slide by.
Some places go by the book.

Like Sheppo, I wouldn't do integrated. Used to have it & always had to put the stock blinkers back on pretty much wherever I brought it because most places go by the "8 inches apart" rule. Finally I just left the stock blinkers on the bike until I sold it.

With my current bike, I personally chose to do things myself and make everything pretty much legal so I don't even have to worry about it. Some nice aftermarket blinkers and a home made plate bracket do wonders for a bike's rear end and give cops less excuses to give you a hard time - which, to me, is awfully important.

The place I go to lets a lot of things slide, but the plate location on those two kits might be pushing it a bit.

    Re: Modifications & Inspection

Don't worry about the plate location. The only thing that will get you is not having the rear turn signals far enough apart. Ask me how I know...

    Re: Modifications & Inspection

I would def skip the integrated light since so many of you are against it. Must be a reason why

The second one tho is nice and looks like the directional lights are legal. Guess there is no way to know without buying the kit or writing in to ask them.

I've been inspected by the Mass inspection Nazi's and they have never said anything about my license plate. NY Highway Patrol is another story.

    Re: Modifications & Inspection

Here is my setup, if it helps. Its an integrated tail light, then I added the lights on the passenger rear sets. They do running light, brake, and turn signals. Together its very bright and visible at night.

    Re: Modifications & Inspection

was it hard to concoct some sort of mount for the passenger rear-sets? I also imagine you don't have passengers on your bike much???

    Re: Modifications & Inspection

It was pretty easy to run them on the stock passenger pegs, and they don't interfere at all with passengers. I don't have passengers often, but thats because my GF doesn't really like riding on there.

    Re: Modifications & Inspection

you can hang the plate off to either side, just make sure it's Horizontal. Both Ma and NH are sticklers for that. You wont get hassled as much but you wont get a sticker. Why have the hassle of changing it every year.
Plate location, the LEO have to be able to read your numbers with out it being obscured. More and more they are cracking down.
