Yeah, to be clear, my suggested numbers are 'at the brochure' and just cherry picking the high end of what I know is out there. (Lets not even start the Dynojet vs FactoryPro discussion, or comparing different dynos in general or...) Even a stocker SV's going to have torque on an RS250 though.

I don't know about anyone fitting, it looks like it would be a problem for anyone over 5'8". There is a reason Jake is on one and JC isn't.

I'm gonna throw a leg over a GP bike just for a picture.

Probably look a lot like I did riding Shawn Barron's R3 around Palmer backwards the other day. Hell I'm sure I looked awkward riding Woody's R1 too but man was it fun.

Like me on a TTR125, which I would politely describe as "watching an elephant trying to fuck a grasshopper"

Easy, when you guys all took off out of the pits and I twisted the throttle I realized that it was a bad idea to swap with Shawn for that session. I think I kept you guys in the outer reaches of my sight lines until somewhere just after turn 9 then I decided to pit in instead of getting lapped.

Clockwise is not for little bikes, I gather. Cassie also pulled in after one lap.

We might have wicked the pace up a bit... But T7 in reverse has to be the steepest sustained knee down climb in the country. It's like going UP the corkscrew at Laguna. Not sure it is quite as HP hungry as CCW because the steepest climbing that way is a straight out of a slow corner.

    Re: Moriwaki MD250H

Ok, A couple of thoughts after last weekend on the 125 and Moriwaki. Jake has upgraded from the X head to the R head and cams. This has made a huge improvement in power and excitement. The bike feels much more alive now, and even pretty close to a 125 in terms of motor... until you hit 5th gear. It has an overdrive 5th, and when geared for roadracing, the motor cannot pull 5th. You actually slow a bit changing from 4th to 5th. It desperately needs a close ration 6 speed. We are going to experiment with Jake running it as a 4speed this week. Just gear it tall enough to not top out 4th on the straight and see if the motor can pull that.

The chassis remains unflappable. Bone stock, and not even a click changed and I can't find fault with it. The limit is WAAAAY higher than my riding at the moment.

After this weekend I'm much more interested in this bike.

    Re: Moriwaki MD250H

I also got some insight into the moto3 world from Bruce Meyers this weekend. He's one of the best tuners in the US, and has had his hands and eyes on the inside of the KTM moto3 heads. The reason for the 250cc size comes down to piston speed. the smaller/lighter the piston, the easier it is to get control over piston speed. At the end of the day, it allows more manufacturers the chance to play. A company like Mahindra has loads of small bore experience, and can actually come in and be competitive. THere is also the global market for small bore motorcycles to consider.

Anyway, Shawn Spear just bought the HRC customer moto3 bike. It has the same engine as Jake's Moriwaki (with the R head/cam) but with the semi cassette style close ratio 6 speed of the RS 125. Should be interesting to see how they compare as Shawn gets up to speed on it. Maybe I'll get a chance to turn some laps on it one day.

In all seriousness, I would love to hear how much that cost.

If I won the lottery, I think a used Moto3 or Moto2 bike would be an amazing track toy, and at least somewhat usable and reliable.

This was bought brand new, HRC makes "customer" bikes available for feeder class racing. It is very similar, just in a lower state of tune. I can't remember what he paid, but it was a lot. thinking 20Kish.

If that price is accurate, I think that's pretty good value!

Depends how you look at it. It usually includes a season worth of spares.

Agreed. There aren't many motorcycles I would ever consider paying $20k for, but a brand new Moto3 bike is one of them.

If you were to build up a new super sport with all the goodies you'd be at 20k. Seems like a reasonable purchase for a lot of people to me.

I know there are some in the club level that do such things. But please, lets never use the word "reasonable" to describe such behavior.

Maybe if you have a few mil $ in the bank. Maybe.

What? Buying a race bike for $20k? That's not that crazy.
