This is a tough subject. Do we watch purely because of the "racing", or the "competition". "Racing" in the past decade or so, has gravitated more towards a perverse form of entertainment, not competiton. The riders are still involved as always, but marketed as if they are in some kind of personality contest. We shouldn't forget that the manufacturers are in it to prove the superiority of their machines. That was what it all started out as. A manufacturer would tout how great their machine {car/bike/etc} is, and somebody else would call them on it, in competition. So you hire a rider/driver/team, who will help best represent your machine's{supposed} superiority. The machines continously evolve, and the competition continues. What does this have to do with the current situation regarding traction control? Modern electronics have evolved to the point where their contribution is just as important as the evolution of the chassis/engine/tires, etc. Now, some are complaining about it? I agree that some aspects of the modern electronics evolution, could make for less exciting racing, but that is, dare I say it, a natural part of machine evolution, and competition. I want racing to be a result of competition, regardless of where competition takes it.
Not a form of entertainment that needs to be periodically tweaked to keep the ratings up.
