well this weekend i took my yearly trip up to new hampshire for the beginning of bike week with my uncles and dad and a couple of my dads friends. we got up there thursday and friday we decided to go for a nice ride up into maine and back into NH. well seeing how im on the ducati and my dads 2 friends are on sport bikes as well i was ahead of my dad and 2 uncles who ride road kings. we got done with this nice but skinny windy road and were waiting for them to catch up when a few guys rode up onto us and asked if we were with the 3 harley guys and we said yes. and they said we should head back because 2 of them went down. my stomach was pretty much in knots the whole way back seeing how theyre all family so i wasnt looking forward to seeing any of them down. finally i got there and saw my dad he was alright but my 2 uncles werent. one uncle was laying down having trouble breathing and such and the other clearly had a broken ankle, the bone was pushing his boot out. we had pretty good timing though because a car passed by who happened to be a emt as well so he assessed them both and decided my uncle that had been having trouble beathing needed to be life flighted out. once he got to the hospital he had a broken collar bone. bruised lung. 3 broken ribs. and lacerated liver. he was in the ICU from fri til late sunday night and they moved him to the CCU so hes doing better. my other uncle had his ankle operated and had a pin put in. this was probably one of the most scary experiences ive ever been in. ive had a few friends crash with me but nothing hit me like this. but also makes me realize how important it is to wear all your gear they both had leather jackets and helmets on and that def helped against some rash. they have both been riding for 20+ years so it kinda made me realize even people with a lot of experience can make a simple mistake that can almost take your life. the first uncle that went down said he was checking his speed then looked up and there was a corner out of know where and by the time he tried to get into the corner he was already into the sand/gravel pull off by that time my other uncle panicked and locked up his breaks and went into the pull off as well luckily my dad made it around the corner and stopped. just make sure your extra careful you really never know what is going to happen.
