I don't know if its just me or not, but it seems like there has been more accident this year than previous years. This hits home as this happened sunday and are family friends.

Sad, and I'm sorry for your loss.
May I ask (don't answer if you don't know or think it's inappropriate), what kind of helmet was he wearing and what injuries took him?

A 61 year old motorcyclist died on my street this evening. They said he was riding erratically and hit 2 trees. RIP both riders.
I think there are more and more riders in general. Which would naturally increase accidents. Not a good thing, but there it is.
Saturday I was out for a ride on Rt. 2 and in Charlemont I passed a nasty accident involving a bike and a car. It was apparent that someone had gone over the double yellow. From what I hear they investigated and figured out the kid in the car was at fault and drove into oncoming traffic.
It's weird too, a co-worker was mentioning how he has heard about a lot of accidents with bikes this year and he doesn't even ride.

Seems accidents across the board are on the rise. VT issued their memorandum of no tolerance and now MA SP is having a meeting today in bridgewater to discuss the high amount of accidents and implement a higher rate of driving taxation. I almost got run over this morning when a statey was sitting on the side of the road and everyone in front of me brake checked but the guy behind me didn't feel the need as badly. I think most of those in charge in MA realize that if you slow traffic too much, the flow reduces to the point the roads can't handle the volume.
The State Police said that anybody going even 1mph over the speed limit is putting themselves at risk for getting a ticket. The governor then came out and basically called that plan asinine. They seem to have backed off the 1mph over thing, but they are willing to give tickets for 71 in a 65, so it is still quite strict.
And speeding ticket = driving tax

Thanks for clarifying all that re VT and driving taxation.
