    motorcycle accidents--weird

motorcycle accidents--weird: Have always wondered if they test motorcycles in accidents like the do vehicles? I know they do brake test and ect. As you guys both know there was two riders(family) that passed away last year. There was also another motorcycle accident in my town of Waltham,MA yesterday. The weird thing about them was they were all riding Kawasaki zx6 the 636 2005-2006 body style. I find this weird, Im wounding if these bikes might be "worst" an an accident scenario compared to an f4i, 600rr, r6,ect. I know accidents happen on everything all the way to vespas but just something in common i found.

I'm thinking they are just a very common model.

pat your sitting on something that in most cases is almost identical to every other motorcycle. Cruisers...mostly the same. Sport bikes...mostly the same.
Dont think there is anything to test. If I hit a wall the same exact way on my gsxr as someone does on their cbr the difference is probably little to none. (Disregarding all minor variables, speaking in general terms of seating position, and assuming crash conditions are identical)

interesting thought.... i always thought that rider positioning would have a lot to do on how you'd move after a crash.... for example, on a sport bike you are perched on top of the seat, while on a cruiser you are reclined. it's hard to test on crash test dummies, since they have no muscle tone, and can't accurately represent a person flying through the air with conciousness

Bikes can't help protect you in an impact because the rider is immediately ejected. About the only acception is if they decide to install an airbag somehow. That may help for a head-on.

nothing better than parking your bike and then BOOM! airbag shoots out at you...

before you know it they will be strapping you down to the bike.

i dont think there is any coincidence other than your family likes 636s. any bike you're on, your going straight. even with an air bag.... all it will probably due is change your projectory to up in the air over the object.

    Definitely a good thing...
I went down due to a tankslapper at 130+ on my FJ1100 (Nov 2, 1989).

Bike and I parted company immediately then skidded at about the same rate for what seemed an eternity... I tumbled occasionally while attempting to relieve stress on hot spots during slide.
Watched bike tumble too, glad it wasn't pounding on my carcass!

Ended up stopped about 15 or 20 feet behind bike, then stood to shut ignition, remove helmet and survey scene.
(As I was riding in a T-shirt, jeans and boat shoes with no socks I wasn't standing all that long after crash!)

    1) A legislator tried to pass a bill requiring seatbelts for bikes. Thankfully, he had a friend that rides who set him strait.

    2) Air bas will do good for cruisers and tourers, because you are sitting strait up to slightly reclined. Sport bikes are screwed because you are leaning forward, the bars are low, and you are going over the top of it.

actually crash test dummies are very sophisticated, and do accurately represent average body densities & bone strength, skin, etc.
