Re: Motorcycle rentals in San Diego
Starting to plan a trip from Portland to San Diego and back. Would love to hear if there are any additional info on this subject.
Re: Motorcycle rentals in San Diego
Headed to San Diego next weekend coincidentally. Won't have time to rent a bike (got a convertible mustang though).
I'll have a day or so free to explore.. any must see's?

Ortega Highway can be a fun drive a little North of San Diego and dumps out in Lake Elsinore

Lots to do in San Diego depending upon interests... some things to consider:
Seaport
Old Town
Zoo
Surfing school
Beach near La Jolla
Hop on/off trolley tour to get an overview of points of interest and find something
Gaslamp district (food, drink, some interesting architecture)
...

Palomar!!
@Swiftone hit me up when you are here!
Noobie ride 10 years later. Same dudes. More gear :spit:
Let me find a ninja 600R and a CBR600F2!
Re: Motorcycle rentals in San Diego
I'm actually there now. At convention center area. Rented a ram quad cab as I've been thinking about getting one and spent the day at the beach in lajolla. Watched a surfing competition. Went to lajolla cove and saw the sea Lions. Also went to a beach in Coronado yesterday. Cool place. There a place called GP motorcycles I saw from the highway. Looked them up online and they sell only euro bikes. Thought about stopping by but I can see 90% of what they have back home. Enjoy.

We'll be renting 1200GSs, 1200RTs, and Tiger 800s

I rode up to NorCal on my Triumph Explorer through Big Sur last month. On and off-road. Was epic, hope you have a great route planned.

. Yeah they are struggling with it.
They sell Alta's too and have a nice used bike room that has some gems in it from time to time.

Hey Ryan,
If you wanna check out the Zoo, recommend the San Diego Safari Park over the San Diego Zoo (same group, two different locations). The Safari park is about 30 minutes north of the city in Escondido (where I live actually) and sort of nicer to walk around and enjoy. Less touristy too. The on in town is nice too, and is literally in Balboa Park (with tons of museums to see on it's own), but we prefer the Safari Park (have annual passes).
As for nice Drives in the Mustang. You could run this loop. 150 miles and takes you from San Diego, out the 8 East, off into Pine Valley and up the Sunrise Hwy, across the mountain ridge with great views way down into the desert floor, off to Julian the old mining town, great to walk around and eat, down from the mountains to Santa Ysabel, apple pie at the Santa Ysabel 79/78 junction, down 78 past the Safari Park, into Escondido (wave as you drive by) for a drink at Stone, then onto Del Dios Hwy through the very high $$ neighborhoods, down into Solana Beach, then take the PCH Hwy 1 down through Del Mar and into La Jolla and back to SD.

Let me know what else you are interested in and I can give you some reco's.

Ahh small world! Unfortunately I didn't see this until this morning after I got back. We actually planned on hitting the Safari Park but ran out of time. We spent most of our time in Ramona, and stayed right in your area at the Welk Resort right in Escondido... beautiful spot. I'm not big into golf myself, but got to dodge a rogue ball while having my morning coffee on our patio... that definitely woke me up lol. The drive through the canyon up to Ramona was a fun trip. Got a chance to head down to La Jolla for breakfast at Dukes on Friday before the wedding we were out there for, and hung out with the seals on the beach for a bit.
Didn't end up with the Mustang, not sure what the point of reserving a car is if they aren't going to have it when you get there. Ended up with a Challenger that had about as much balls as my Sonata.
All in all it was a great time, you definitely live in a beautiful area.

Nice! We live 6 miles south of the Welk resort, right off 15. Too bad we weren't able to link up. Glad you had fun, it's for sure a nice area. No complaints :)
Re: Motorcycle rentals in San Diego
Vegas then SD?
You start looking for a job out here yet?

There's been a few discussions. Lots of friends in CA trying to lure me out there, more in the bay area though.

Seriously! It never even donned on me that we'd be right in your neighborhood (or THAT close anyway)... was a quick trip so we were pretty booked up. Would have been awesome to see you guys though!
