    Motus ceases production

Motus Motorcycles Ceases Operations - MotorcycleDaily.com

Motus Owners Group Intl. (MOGi) Public Group | Facebook

“To all Motus customers, dealers, staff, suppliers, friends,
After an amazing ten year ride, Motus is forced to shut down operations, effective immediately.
This week, Motus' financial backers unexpectedly informed management that they will not provide sufficient capital to maintain operations and grow the business. We were surprised and disappointed, especially because we have been working so hard preparing an October 2018 product launch into a new and exciting segment as well as new features on the MST series. This is very unfortunate timing and we will work to quickly find a new path forward for Motus Motorcycles and our American V4 powertrain division.

We are very grateful to Team Motus, truly the finest group of professionals and people, who have each dedicated so much of their hearts and soul to Motus. We are also thankful to our dealers and the many customers and supporters who have cheered us on and put gas in our tanks along the way.

For Motus owners, hang on to those motorcycles. As you already know, they are heirlooms, unlike any other motorcycles ever built.

    Very sincerely,
Lee Conn and Brian Case, founders”

Not surprising. The price premium compared to other high end bikes was just too big, cool bike or not.

Still sad to see it happen.

That's a damn shame. I was seriously considering one for my next bike. I testrode one, and it's one heck of a fine machine.
I guess I'm back to choosing between the new Ducati 939 Supersport, or a Moto Guzzi.
I was also looking at the KTM 1290SD, but I can't find anyone who has put serious miles on that drivetrain, and the stories I'm hearing aren't entirely encouraging.

Yeah, that sucks. Less choice => bad news bears.

Is it significantly different from the 1290 Super Adventure? I can't believe some of those don't have some miles by now?
Or are you saying "significant" as in your brand of "significant"?

"Significant" as in my brand. I want my next bike to turn over 250K miles in about the year 2040.
I haven't been able to even get rumors of anyone putting over 100K on a KTM, so far.
And there are significant concerns about that their warranty covers and how they handle failures.

You are perhaps the most willfully ignorant person I've ever interacted with.

Pretty much how I felt when I first saw one. They are sweet. I got a really close look at one but that price tag puts it out of reach for the majority of us. It's too bad they couldn't hang on for longer.

Maybe they would have survived if we had cranked up the tariffs on all the non-‘merican bikes!

Well, at least they gave it a good run. Tough to get going in a niche market with a niche offering.

Bike looked awesome, but sadly at the price point it was a huge stretch. also h-d can sell the fuck out of some $30k bikes. so clearly someone is spending money.

It's amazing what some people will spend on a lifestyle they really can't afford.

I realized all 7 of our Bikes, together, cost $30,000.

Well, only saw three on ebay. No apparent discount yet. The local "Dealer" in Gardner doesn't even list stock bikes, so not sure they even have any to dispense.

I think all those ones online (ebay) are legacy listings. Found some on CycleTrader. They're out there, eventually owners will probably move on as well.... I wouldn't say no to one at the right price even if it were a bit risky long term.
