    "race" number q's

I know white plates belong on expert bikes, but I only track, never race so I threw a set on my bike. What "rules" pertain to numbers? Figured I'd put some digits on there, but don't want to use someone's numbers to further up the poser level.

    Re: "race" number q's

for track days it really doesn't matter much what color the plate or number is. novices also have white plates, just with red numbers instead of black like experts. it doesn't really matter if you use the same number as a racer. out of respect sure its nice to not use someone else's but not a big deal. at a track day the numbers are really mostly to help the corner workers identify you easily in case there's a problem. they also help the photographer organize all the shots he's taken. my one suggestion is to make them large and plain enough that they are easy to read at speed.

Unless you're racing, there are no rules.

Not if the bike looks like this

Besides, plenty of track day guys show up with former race bikes and run it as purchased. No big deal if you ask me.

you saying I've looked like a douche all these years?

it really is helpful to the corner workers from what I'm told. its much easier to get over the radio and say "387 blowing smoke" than it is to say "red bike I think a honda, blowing smoke"

My track bike is a 99 honda f4, riders in the garage all the time ask me wtf it is. I just tossed my old hockey number 33 on it. Although I am gonna change that to 2% in the milk theme this year I think...

Do whatever you like, and if if looks good, great. If any stigma concerns you, then go for nonstandard background and number colors. Since you are not bound by any rules, you can do your numbers Moto GP style and have them look good.

personally, i think number boards get in the way of a nice paint scheme....sure, you can do something nice to integrate them...but if you don't need to have number boards why put them there?

I know why..."cause it's cool" in which case i suppose you should put your flame suit on LOL

Anyone that truly cares, will know you're not really an expert. And anyone that doesnt care, well, they just plain dont care. Just dont pull a Seth and try to take 505 or Ill stab you.
But I'm with whoever suggested going the MotoGP route and do something funky. Why would you want plain black and white

    To look like a "Racer".

Why else would you put number plates on your bike if you don't race?

Wow, some amateur racers need to let it goooooo. Who cares if he wants numbers on his bike? Im with pete on this one. It might help corner workers, and if he thinks it looks cool, more power to him!

Doc- Saying that he is a poser is not kind and implies that he wants to be like you (as a racer) which is egotistical and lame. Unless you're turning legendary laps, or have some claim to fame, eat some humble pie and if you must think that you are being impersonated, be proud of it and don't hate. Thank you, Signed, Mr. Rogers

I do not think he wants to look like me. I think he wants to look like the fast guys.

I am just not of the mind to try and look like a racer if you are not a racer.

Plenty of people at trackdays would not know the difference and ASSUME he is a racer. I think that is a misrepresentation.

+1 on the "douche chills" if you put expert plates on a track bike just because you are a wannabe. Whats next you gonna put on a military uniform when hanging around near bases? Its about equal. Pretending to be part of an organization you are not.

Its not like a kid putting a mickey mouse license plate on thier bigwheel to try to be like dad. (or maybe it is).
