Rsw81, I believe what youre saying and I believe your friend. My experience has been the opposite. The reason I give a shit to even attempt to tell you or anyone is Ive seen on a few forums people saying MVs arent reliable etc. Horseshit. Ive had both F4's and a Brutale. All ran quite well and had zero issues.
I think what perpetuates the unreliable myth is the fact that dealer support in the US is terrible and parts availability from Italy has been crap. The machines themselves are reliable, and honestly my 2nd F4 & my Brutale I rode them HARD, wrung their neck so to speak. While I didnt like the feel of the upright naked (Brutale) they were both amazing machines.
I think there might be 30 dealers in the entire US. And like I said, parts support has been less than stellar. But thankfully I never needed much other than oilfilters. TLRMan and I worked on my 2nd F4 together, synched the throttle bodies and while removing the tank we broke a fuel valve. We went over to Eastern Cycle, which was the dealer at the time and they had one in stock. MV's replacement was stainless steel, whereas the orig part was plastic. So I was happy about that. That was the only part I needed and it was somthing I broke.
After my personal experience with the MV's Ive had, I would not hesitate for a second to buy another.
Conversely, I had a GSXR that was a friggin nightmare. And a Yamaha dirtbike that I wanted to toss off a cliff...
As we all know, any machine, any brand has good and bad. It just erks me to see people bash MV, most of the time unjustified.
