    MX kicks your ar$e...

Wow, I forgot how much MX just kicks the crap out of you! I grew up riding dirtybikes, from basically 10 to 17. Then I went to college, sold my CR125, and rode DH for the next few years. I bought a TT-R 125 last year for my girlfriend and I to do some woods riding on... but that's nothing compared to riding a full on motocross bike.

Fast forward to this spring, and I find out that there is a track in Templeton MA that lets you ride for $20 bucks on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays. Good stuff! Problem is I've never ridden an actual motocross track... and I didn't a 'real' MX bike at the moment. Lucky for me Jeff Wood was gracious enough to offer up his brothers bike (heheh) for me to ride one day and I ripped that CRF250 around as best I could, which, was pretty bad. I couldn't even do 3 laps in a ROW around the track without almost dying.. while Jeff was doing 20 lap motos! Humbling.. to say the least.

Well got my own bike this week. Here she is. 2002 CR125, 13 years newer than my last CR125. It's one of Jeff's old bike and he hooked it up with a deal I just could not refuse. So add another bike to the stable....

Here's a few pics from riding Jeff's personal MX track on Wed. Still getting dialed in, literally 100 feet from his backdoor. 2nd time I've ridden my CR... getting better at it

Hrm. All these pics are off Jeff riding, since I was busying catching my breath... just mentally erase Jeff and substitute me instead.

While my endurance is crap, at least I can jump (I loooove jumping) so I was pumped to hit all the jumps on the track. Some harder than others...

This table goes into another longer table then a double jump before a big rainbow berm on the hillside. I love the double at the end because you are all sideways off it to line up the berm.

This setup jump is immediately after the rainbow berm in the last pic. Finally started hitting the backside of this jump so I was very stoked on that!

Funny story about this one... I was hitting it fine.. then all of a sudden started having some issues with the takeoff. After two almost-endo's and riding down the backside ONLY on the front wheel... I parked it and walked over to take some pics. So Jeff hits it a few laps.. braaap.. then 2 laps in a row.. VROOOOOM he's doing the same thing, riding the front wheel down the landing, about >.< close to flipping over, bike revving to the moon!! He's like WTF!! Well upon closer inspection of the takeoff, looks like a rut developed and sunk in, which caused the rear wheel to jack off the lip and flip you almost on your head. Fun / scary stuff

Saved the best for last.. or the worst.

This jump is my personal Nemesis.. It's the last of a series of 3 doubles in a row. A rythem section if you will. The first two are short and medium, with the last being pretty long and I gotta hit it pinned in 3rd gear to clear it. I don't always make it.. (ow). It's the hardest jump on the track thou, at this point, so it's real satisfying when you do. I think I'm like 5 for 8 at this point

Well that's that. I suggest a dirtbike if you are into being in shape, but hate the gym (like I do..). It friggin WORKS you from head to toe.

If you need another example. Jeff was / is racing a National this weekend.. and he rode everyday this week, at least a few motos, as a 'tune up' for roadracing. egads.

    Okay one more..

This is that Rythem Section I mentioned above. You can see the berm that leads to Doubles 1 and 2 and the 3rd further out. This is Eric chasing Jeff. Eric tore himself away from shipping out rearsets and the like to do a few laps.

Also riding was Joe Kessler (ex-LRRS racer), who books it.
