So, I hate to bring back a possibly deceased thread, but curious what you ended up doing as I'm in the same situation. With Honda's CB1000, there seems to be new competition to the Kawasaki Z1000. However, I'm looking for something upright, and preferably smaller than a 1000 (I never use all the power). I like the Monster 796, but unsure on the ergo's. If it's any help, I'm coming from a Ninja 650R, and consider myself to be somewhere between novice and intermediate level rider (3rd on road bike with a few years of exp. with my actual bike license), I like to have fun, but ride within my own limits and responsibly. I like the 2 cylinder bikes, and feel like my options are pretty slim. Any thoughts?

Have you ridden a triumph yet? I was in the same boat until I tested out the Streety and then I waited for the R to come in and bought it as soon as I saw it.
Street Triple is a great bike an has similar torque to the twins and more power up top. Plus, it is very light like the Monsters. The monster ergonomics are not bad at all. Coming from an FZ6, it took me a couple of weeks to get used to them, but it is really comfortable now. Check out cycle-ergo.com to compare. Put n your height and inseam. If you are a bigger guy, a Shiver may fit the bill, but I would be weary realiability

I thought they only had the speed triple now, which was the bigger of the two. I also hadn't thought about them much cause for a while they had those 2 huge headlights up front that really turned me off. I'll take a look into the newer ones too, thanks. Dankatz, I'll check out that website, and I feel the same way about the shiver, buying a no longer made model may cause issues later, that and undertail exhausts would cook my fat ass.

after owning the SV650N I can't get enough of the naked twins. This year I picked up a 05 Tuono. It's not naked enough for my liking though.
I know this sounds like strange question, but if anyone has pics of the storage areas on their bikes, it would also help. On my ninja I was able to fit a little weatherproof camera case under my seat, to hold reg. info, spare cash, snacks. Thanks.

You'll be able to do a small cemera and pending the snacks maybe. Candy bars? no problem. But honestly tail or tank bag FTW.
It's an all steel tank, magnetic tank bag and nothing to worry about with plenty of room.
I'm gonna have to check these triumph bikes out. So is the street triple still available, or is it much better to just go with the bigger bike? Mainly gonna be a commuter, for havin fun, and the occasional long rides.
Yes, street triple is available and is plenty fast.

If I had the money to have another naked street bike it would be the Street Triple R, no doubt.

Any good dealers around beside precision? No Eboos means no reason for me to go there. I'm in the worcester area, and trying to find a place that'd have both models for me to sit on.
Sold the 998 and got an S2R 1000. Paid of the race trailer with the difference.
I miss the 998 for the looks alone but I have a 748 that still does it for me.

You can't go wrong with the street R I had one for a while and really loved it. I ended up getting rid of it only because of money issues I was having. I had the Street and The speed and when money became a factor I kept the speed because I am a bit on the large size (6'4 220lbs ) That's not to say that I was to big for the street, I definitely wasn't but for an overall comfort the speed just fit me better. I also had a 696 monster for a few days ( very long story ) and I liked it but was very hard to ride for someone my size. Triumph does test rides go take one, you won't regret it
If you like the torque of a twin, then do yourself a favor and ride a ZRX1200. Yes, it's a 1200, but it's a pussy cat of an engine. Smooth, quite, reliabled as the sun, torque monster. Comfortable as hell with surprisingly good handling. Plus you can get them CHEAP in nice shape.

-take a day trip to riverside in somerville, they have ever model listed in this conversation. including the new ape tuono, my choice. with the triumph, you get alot of bike for the price. the RSV4tuono kills everything, except the RSV4 which it is based from. aero mainly.
