Angry The nastiness of undertail exhaust

They may look good but they suck to work on!

I just had to strip my entire tail section down to the subframe to get the freaking exhaust off.

I could have just hacksawed the stock exhaust and saved a ton of time but for some reason I figured I might not want to do that.

Swap out that exhaust and it will save you at least 15 pounds in weight!

    The nastiness of undertail exhaust

I'm going to weigh it all tonight before I start putting it back together.

My gut feeling is the weight savings isn't nearly that much.

Although I think the aftermarket exhaust IN the packaging weighs less then stock.

The stock exhaust was welded together as a single piece all the way from the catalytic converter. Man I wish they used clamps like the aftermarket stuff!

I had to resist other 'de-greening" of my bike last night. I almost yanked the charcoal cannister off. It's always in the freakin way when I change the oil. I'm not even sure what the point is... let the gas vapors condense and then drip the gas onto the pavement instead of just letting the vapor out?

Your bike will like you better if you take all the emissions garbage and stock exhaust off. Get a decent aftermarket system and let her breathe!

strip the tail section? its been awhile since i did my vfr but the remus install wasn't that bad. i had more trouble with the after market hangers that were shipped bent. ofcourse i have the fender removed on mine to. i snapped a bolt of were it clamps to the mid/front pipe on the stock system.

the weight savings is worth it imo. i never weighed the stock cans but there heavy as hell! the sound of the v4 is awesome with a good system.

Luggage rack was the problem. When you put on the luggage rack you swap out some portions of the subframe & tail to beef everything up. It puts the exhaust completely enclosed in a cage, and you can't take the fender off without taking the luggage racks off.

But that is still impressive if you got it off without cutting any pipes as the manual claims you have to pull it all off. I was hoping I'd be able to separate it at the catalytic converter and pull it forward and down but no luck.

I can't wait to get the new stuff on.
