A SLOW BIKE RIDING PREDICTABLY ON THE RACE LINE IS SAFER THAN A FAST BIKE UNPREDICTABLY OFF THE RACE LINE

and if you can't safely steer your bike 2 feet in either direction to go around me I seriously question why you're on a racetrack with a bike!

(Please dont take offense, this is not an attack on you - I just think this is shitty on NESBA's behalf)

    Re: NESBA BANS MOTARDS

That's a retarded move that will cost nesba money in the long run.

If you can't avoid a slow bike at a trackday, then you are taking it too much like a race and YOU shouldn't be there, not the slower bike.

Everyone can say it's in the name of safety, but how far do you go? How about we all trailer our bikes down to a racing venue and stand around looking at them, bragging about how much nice shit is on our bikes. Actually, that way we could have a few beers while we are doing it as we wouldn't be going on the track. Hmmmm, interesting idea.

Oh yeah!, DUH!! That already happens!

    It's called Bike week.

Let's all buy Harleys and pay someone to go on a ride, then stop at a bar and get shitfaced and ride home. That way we won't have to pass any traffic at 40mph closing speed.

Messaqe to NESBA: RETHINK THIS STUPID IDEA!!

No offense taken! Just a difference in opinions I guess.

I've ridden with NESBA for several years and believe all there policies/rules are based on rider safety, guess I just felt the need to defend a decision I mostly agree with.

Screw motards..... especially ones from Mass

I see your side as well, but don't you think at the very least this should engulf all motorcycles that do this similar top speed? I mean motards singled out is really no solution and not making it any safer if there are still ex500s, 250s etc allowed out there on the straights.

I don't see how someone with any amount of intelligence could back up the rule they've created considering the illogical reason they've given for it.

It's like if someone said NO GIXXER 600's AT LOUDON and their reasoning was that a 600 is too fast on the front straight... but they continued to allow R6's, CBR600RRs, and ZX6R's to run there.

    You drinking the Kool-Aid, dude?

It's a senseless decision. I could at least understand where they were coming from if there was a decision to segregate ALL low-HP bikes. I would disagree, but at least I could understand what they're trying to accomplish. Their rationale is completely ridiculous. Motards unsafe, EX500's OK... thefuck? How can anyone say that makes sense?

    Re: NESBA BANS MOTARDS

I think the rule is ridiculous, for the only reason that Tricky Mike mentions, if you want to make a rule to get rid of speed differential, it needs to be across the board, not one type of bikes and allow other lower horsepower bikes and claim its not the same.
On this note, the 1 track day, and 1 open practice I've done my little horsepower bike was never an issue. At the track day on my tard (granted its a little bigger than most, but I never hit more than 110 at Loudon) I was passed only twice all day, does that make my tard more unsafe than me closing on 600s and 1000s in corners?
In an open practice on a thursday on my EX I almost took out a guy on a ZX-10 because he'd leave me on the straight and park it in a corner. I tried to get around him in 3 and came FAR closer than I would like to. So obviously his ZX-10 is unsafe because the closing speed was far slower in the corners than my EXs.

Looks like NESBA will refund (if thats what "take care of you" means) if you were planning on riding a motard:

For anyone who was planning on riding the event and has a motard as their only machine for doing a track day please get in touch with me and we will take care of you.

I'm sure they're getting a shitload of backlash about this.

I wonder if they will really stick it out, maybe expose the true reason they're doing it, or eventually cave? This would kill their business I bet.

They won't get another penny of my money. This is absurd.

Tony hasn't commented on this, but I am sure glad he doesn't have his head in the same hole NESBA seems to.

    Re: NESBA BANS MOTARDS

God, that is the most ludicrous thing I have ever read! Making a mental note to not go to a NESBA event, because apparently although my SV650 is certifiably ok to be out there, the fact that I am not a fast rider is enough to scare me away from their events. I wouldn't trust someone like that to look after my safety....sorry....

    Re: NESBA BANS MOTARDS

maybe NESBA should base their classes like LRRS does practice sessions. like bikes all in the same group.
i think that there is an underlying reason for this decision. if you cant see a bike that clearly sits 2 ft higher than any sportbike then you arent paying attention.
It's like if someone said NO GIXXER 600's AT LOUDON and their reasoning was that a 600 is too fast on the front straight... but they continued to allow R6's, CBR600RRs, and ZX6R's to run there.

    Re: NESBA BANS MOTARDS

    So...

    Portland International Raceway
1098S - 180mph (indicated) on the front straight
Hypermotard - 130mph (indicated) on the front straight
Both Ducati streetbikes (Hypermotard isn't a 'true' motard)

    NESBA - BAN THE HYPERMOTARD!!!!!

Sorry, their logic is extremely flawed. NESBA = fail.
