New to me a 2000 drz400 with 1800 miles on it. ufo tail light kit but other than that its stock. I need to sell my wr250 now so I can put some $$ toward this new one. Knobbier tires, woods riding guards etc.....

that thing is super clean especially for being 6 years old
The guy I bought it from was the second owner the first guy put only 244 miles on it and the second put the rest and according to him they were all commuting miles on road. From what I can tell I think he was being honest.
I think its still the original tires so those will definately need to be replaced with knobbies for the woods.

I guess with those not so knobby tires, I can leave my knobbies home then?

Its up to you about the knobbies, I'll still go in the dirt, concider it my handicap. But I'll leave it up to you, if you have buns we'll stick to dirt roads if you have knobs we'll go in the woods

You can always change them here if you decide to.

Street buns are on it now and I've ridden plenty of dirt roads with them. We'll see, I may toss the bumpies in the truck and change them over a beer or 10Originally posted by theothersean

see you round 7 still? Are you riding that to MM?
Usual is fine with me and I should be there around 6:30-7

Haven't decided what I am taking to MM yet.
I might take the sprint for the sake of not burning what knobs I do have on the street. I think its roughly 50 miles or so from my house via back roads and such. I'll decide sat.![]()

What are the best tires for 70% dirt/rock and 30% road?
Ah, yes. The trusty ol' 70/30...Originally posted by Ken C

Just about any DOT tire will work okay in dirt and rocks. It's the sand & mud where proper tire selection is key. A tire that works well in sand & mud will likely be a poor tire for the street.Originally posted by Ken C

The Pirelli MT21s seem to be okay on the road, if you don't plan to drag the pegs intentionally. They work very well off-road for a DOT tire.
A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. - John Stuart Mill
MT 21s seem to be the choice I keep hearing about. Thanks.
I was running metzler karoos on the dr650 and I loved them both on and offroad, although a bit buzzy on the road, but what knobby isn't? They were intended for bigger bikes, not sure if they make one for the drz though. I'll have to start looking around myself now.![]()
